Official status report about Windows

Hi all! I would like to say a word or two about the Windows version of Coldstone. I will clarify something first:Coldstone is divided in two parts. The first part is the editor (Coldstone) which allows the creation of stand-alone games. The second part is the engine that takes all your game files and makes a playable thing with them.

The engine will be available for Macintosh and Windows which means that anyone with Coldstone will be able to do a game for any of those platforms. Coldstone (the game editor), however, is currently officially supported on Macintosh only. Why? There is a screenshot of a Windows version on the screenshots page! Is this a fake? No, it is not a fake. The editor is working on Windows. While most of the "porting" work has been done on the editor, the main problem is that the software we are using was as stable on the windows platform as a cow standing on a vertical ten foot pole. It has been greatly improved but isn't ready yet in our opinion to produce a top notch quality product on Windows (the funny part is that they just released a new version of their product that support OSX -- which is not ready and released yet). Beside this, we don't have the time actually to work on a Windows version of the editor. It may change or it may not. You can send millions of emails to me or Ambrosia, fill this board with Windows queries or change your signature for an irritating Windows version complain, this will change nothing. One thing for sure: we want to do a Windows version of Coldstone. We just don't know if/when we will have the time.

Have a nice day all.

P.S.: Since the other similar topic was falling into the usual windows-mac debate, I felt that it would be more useful to start a new one. If you think that you have a comment that could mark a new historical point in the Windows-Mac war, other patriots will be pleased to hear it the previously stated topic. If however you have question about the Windows version that are not answered by this post, please feel free to reply.

Yeah that was me.
My brother is ESPilot.
He goes on the webboard too and he was the last one on this computer to use the webboard.
Sorry. I hate the way it automatically gives you the last screen name you use.
Anyway...Is PoG gonna be for Windows?

GOT YER CONK!

Well, Beenox likes money (I think), and ASW likes money so I guess there will probably be a windows version, it would make sense.

i thought ambrosia was a mac only company. what's up with the peecee version of coldstone?

Just becuase it makes a majority of Mac software doesn't mean it can't make PC software.
A lot of people that use PCs will want to use Coldstone. If they make Coldstone for PC and Mac they make themselves not a Mac company but a company for COMPUTER users. I think all software companies should make everything compatable between the platforms. It would be nice if the Mac and PC industries could figure out a way to make both computers use a universal file system. But that'll probably never happen. Like IE and Netscape should make a browser together to make everything universal so on...

Either way don't discourage the production of making a PC version. All it does it makes it more flexable and a better program. And makes more people happy. Namely me 😃

Coldstone looks like it'll be really cool, but I would never buy a Mac just to make a game. I use a PC and unless Mac changes to be like PCs I'll always use a PC. Just preferance.

When I used RPG Maker95 / 2000 I was going nuts from not having enough options. I'm thinking about professionally making games (RPGs) and need flexable engines. And I know a lot of people that are in the same postion I am. Having Coldstone would help me a lot! So what does it hurt a mac user to make a PC version of vice-versa?

I've got no objections to a windows version anymore (whether or not that happens, we'll see). But as soon as somebody makes a windows only game....

DarkBlade's blood boils

Hehe, I just noticed Dee made a funny about windows, coldstone, a cow, and a ten foot pole. Clever!

It think if the option's there to make a game for PC and Mac the author should always make it for both. You make the game for people to play it...

It's easier saidn than done. Don't beleive me? Try it's easier done than said. You'll find it's easier said that it's easier done than said than done. Therefore it's easier said than done.

Maybe you work for PC Accelerator (or whatever they're called these days) or PC Gamer? Then you might not compile for mac. A huge portion of the games would be cross platform though, but I am sure their would be at least one game...Anyways it doesn't matter. The editor won't be windows as Dee has said.
