licensing agreement?

considering that those who use coldstone to develop a game will be held to a licensing agreement, what is the licensing agreement? how would a shareware deal work? might there be help with distribution (just in case, ya know)? some info here, which i think is independant of the coldstone developement effort, is certainly called for. (salute)

If you think of Coldstone as a 'development tool/environment', as RealBasic is (which is being used to develop Coldstone), then the product of Coldstone as a standalone application, should be the exclusive property of the licensed owner/user of Coldstone. As such, the game can be distributed either as freeware, shareware or standard retail product by the licensee of Coldstone with no obligation to the licensor.

If Coldstone or some part of Coldstone is also distributed with your 'stand alone' application, then Ambrosia or Beenox can/will exert some control over your distribution.

What is possible, even likely, Ambrosia and Beenox could request/demand that 'Made with Coldstone Game Engine' be prominently displayed somewhere in your game.

Of course, if Ambrosia thinks that it (your game) has a good potential Ambrosia market, you could hear from them.

Not to be completely wasting your time if you have already done this, but I recall there's a section about this in the FAQ.

yeah, i read that part of the faq. it doesn't go into great detail, which is kinda what i'd like. 🙂 any admins out there with the official word who want to swamp me with the full agreement?

Unfortunatly, us mods are just people pulled off the metaphorical street, we don't work at Ambrosia so we can't really divulge any information about the contract, even if we knew something we couldn't. I'll pass this over to andrew...

There is no official word or official agreement yet; the product is still in beta. If we settle on a licensing agreement before it leaves beta, we'll let you know.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Which brings another question, can the people who write the games make their own terms of agreement like in hotline? 😄

Seriously, who knows, some people might not want others editing their games, or distributing them, etc.
