Will Coldstone have a food feature? For instance, would you need to carry around food? Could you pick fruit from trees? Could you eat/drink things that are bad for you?
Also: will there be daytime/nighttime in Coldstone? Will you be able to add a 'time-of-day' to your game?
Speculation?

Ah, apples. They are so much more pure than a McChicken meal.
------------------
I really don't know, but I do hope! Well about the night time anyway. The food thing would make a game more realistic, but kinda tedious all the same.
------------------ Yeah I'm confused by this signature thing... Lorenoth? right...
Right....it would be much more realistic. You really should be able to also get nutrients from certain foods, like the 'alskld' fruit makes you have insanely great powers.
I honestly don't really think that there will be a built in food system, but it's always a possibility. I think that a day/night mode would be a lot more likely. It might also be possible just to make 2 versions of locations that would switch every once in a while, although a day/night system like this which you might be able to make by yourself would not make is very easy to have things like werewolf characters or something like that.
------------------ "Don't blame me, I voted with the majority!"
I don't think that it will be easy to pull off this 2-locations thingy, if the game doesn't have a time counter.
If it does, then you probably can institute a day-night condition. The programmers will probably have a dialog box which does this 2-location thing as a script added to the map which you can add in a user-friendly way. You shouldn't need to figure out these things for yourself.
It actually wouldn't be that hard. If Coldstone has some sort of internal timer, which it probably does, then you could send yourself to a different area after a certain amount of time. It would be the area during night. Then you would also change your character graphics and stats. The bad thing, though, is that you would have to redesign the whole area using darker shades. But for the rest, you just have to use events.

I'm think people will have to set up food with events. As to the time thing, I have a nasty feeling there won't be support for it.

Food is a great idea. Everyone needs it so why not have it? Make both general foods and rare foods. General foods will feed the people and keep them healthy (Hp regenerates faster as will mp) while rare foods help attributes (speed, strength, insanely great powers) as well as keep your person healthy. The rare foods would wear of in effect (like caffinated pop eventually wears of). Yes, food should be in the game.
------------------ Had to alter sig because it was pissing me off
Food would be a good idea, provided they make it "optional". but then again you can customize almost anything with it so....

------------------ Dr. Tall says: Taller is Better
While forcing a character in a game to eat on a regular basis can border on the verge of tedium, making food a factor could (in theory) make for some dramatism in the right situations...
Take, for example, a scene from the recent Avernum 2 (I'm trying to keep the spoilers out, but if you're ultra sensitive, read only after you've gotten to Chapter 3). Your characters are supposed to go on a several hundred mile journey across a raging river. You are warned to stock up on food, because every time you go over some rapids or a waterfall, you lose some food. The problem is, the only thing food is good for in the game is allowing your characters to rest in the wilderness, thereby regaining health and magic points. However, with clever use of potions, healing magic, and taking advantage of the fact that magic points regenerate relatively quickly when you walk (or boat) around, you never really need to 'rest,' and thereby food becomes useless.
So what could have been an interesting mini-game of sheer survival in the wilderness rather becomes a mini-game of manipulating game mechanics. If you don't have any food, you can just boat around a small lake until you are effectively "healed" instead of landing on the small (and possibly dangerous) island and looking for food and a chance to relieve your weariness from the river.
In theory, you could mock up a food engine with coldstone through judicious manipulation of events. Then, you could also turn it off and on for certain sections of the game, so that when you're in civilized areas, food isn't a factor, but in the wilderness, you gotta eat. Again, that's just a theory.

I think the whole food concept works much better in a multiplayer environment. I mean in Everquest, if you played as a Magician(summoner/conjurer) you could become rich once you learned the summon bread/water spells. It's amazing how all those lvl35 and above characters relied on the newby magicians. I took advantage of the food thing and earned myself one of the best swords in the game. Sadly, Coldstone will not be networkable. And I'm not complaining because I have no right to. I can barely understand how difficult it would be. I can't say how great the food idea would work in single player games. And it is tedious, but what does that say about REAL life? I never really thought of eating froot loops as tedious... but in CS you don't get that fruity goodness that rips off the top of your mouth..

Interesting an immature moderator has edited my intro sequence how petty can you be you glue sniffing hype.
Rations !!? You want rations, then why don't you just go ahead and put in a bladder meter.
However the day and night thing if done right could be ice, however mandatory and controlling features lead to frustration (learn from the big boys; Enix,Square,Sony,etc.).
The game should have a level of reality and of course fantasy, menial tasks ("") are not the stuff of epics. Remember most RPG's(depends) are supposed to be legends an' such. So who really cares what your **' character had for breakfast???...

almost all good RPGs have such realisms (But the bladder meter thing isn't good for a serious game, The Sims was origionaly intended to not be a subject of laughter.
There, Cute Puff Ball, I know how do do bold and italic in UBB correctly!! So shut up
I just hope it's more comlex than cythera. It's time counter was great, but the food...
You got hungry, you ate any peice of food, you stopped being hungry. You became hungry later again.
In Dungeon Master2, a cool, but old, but still great in terms of graphics, gameplay, and ram-eating ability, was diffrent You had two meters. Food and water. Over time, they became smaller, and if you ate food, your food meter went up, if you drank water, your water meter went up.
If any meter becomes below a certain point, you tire out and cannot carry as much weight or swing weapons as hard or quickly, and if any meter drops to zero, you take slow, steady damage until you turn into a collectable pile of bones to be exchanged for a new hero at a magic alter.
(Too bad there's no replicate spell)
Another cool feature (though some may dissagree) Spells, are made up of several sets of symbols. Each set has six, and there are four sets. The first one would be power , the more power you put into a spell, the more magic it would take but the stronger the spell would be. You could make food and water by doing this, as well as certain other things. Example: you made a low power spell, then made it fire-elemental, then made it a spell that flies through the air. POOF! A fireball is flung across the sky! or, make it earth elemental, with a good presence, and you get a snack.
Also, when most non-humanoid mosters are killed, they fall into a pile of items, part of which being food. This is like cythera, but you don't have to go searching through the unicorn's purse to pilfer it's roast

lol, but realism (in some cases, read above) gives players a better feel for their charicters.
Besides, the point of this topic is, whether or not it is possible to make food and hunger in coldstone-generated games.
And then, some people may just make a game where you go on adventures or work just to make a living and have food for survival
Plus someone might make a food fight where you throw food around as weapons
Liquid nitrogen slithers into the room, rises forming the apparition He is here...
well if you wanted an item(food) as a weapon simply add the proper characteristics in the the item wizard(I forget what its called its been a while).
The eat to live system could be implemented through the use of a permanent spell or curse if you will(ahem, vampire). The spell would reduce the HP at a gradual/consistent rate.
also I've never played the Sims(the sim city series soured the whole genre for me), the bladder idea was an idea of how ridiculous reality in a fantasy based genre can get.
Like it or not any game were you control someone's life/path is fantasy... ... ...SO SAYS THE CHILL !

Well, in the interface editor, supose you could make another meter like health/Hitpoints/magic that would decrease over time, or when actions are performed. Using certain items (IE Food) make the meter go back up, and if it falls below 50%, your abilities are slightly reduced, and your somewhat weaker, if it falls below 20%, you start taking gradual damage, and if it drops to 0, you DIE

Hmm... good rules you've posted in this string, oh wait, YOU DON'T CONTROLL WHAT WE SAY OR DO OR PUT INTO OUR GAMES
If people wanted to make a game like you're depicting (Which I hope you're not totaly limited to) they could.
If people wanted to make a simple simulater where the game was totaly centered arround use of a dice macro or mini-game then they could.
And if someone wants to make a game that makes no sense whatsoever because they were drunk or stoned or just messed up in the head while they were making it even though it had no point at all...
...then I can and most likely will
