Well yeah, but products can still sell without the use of Ambroisa, we would just need to give it to the right places. If a game is good enough for Ambroisa, it is DEFIANTLY good enough for a Mac Addict CD, and then you get all the marketing you want, plus they don't even need to download the demo/shareware version of your game. All I am saying is any game good enough to be published by you guys is good enough for a lot of thing.

Your right there, I'm sure that Fantasoft or Spiderweb would jump at the chance to publish a game good enough to be under the Ambrosia label.

Hell, since skyblade and Gav are on the freeware trail, I'll go along to. Just don't expect the highest qualiy games coming from me ( if there does happen to be a great title, I'll give a copy to y'all and then put it into shareware :))

Hell I don't know anymore... I'm going to work really damn hard on my game {I've already started... vague plot is forming}... But I don't know if it'll be good enough... meh...

{oh, and if i do sell through Ambrosia, would i be able to give free copies to my friends: it kinda seems logical, im the one losing money by it... I dunno}

I said I would go freeware unless the game was good (read: good enough for Ambrosia), then I would go shareware. Gav and I have discussed putting our ideas into one big game, though. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out...

btw... will i be able to put background music in coldstone, it said something about scripting an event such as play music, but can i just have it so in various places a song plays looped? {My brother is one of those kid piano geniuses, and i'm pretty good at thinking up tunes}

I think too many people are worry about selling games too early... Not many shareware companies make much, and you gotta ask yourself "Would I pay money for this?" You'll have a softspot for the game. I'd say more than likely, distribution for free with just self promotion benefits would be a more justifiable means rather than selling a game for $15 when you maybe able to download a possible competitor's for free game. I find it doubtful that I'll find any games I'd be willing to pay for...

You just said two mouthfuls... Most folks don't buy shareware games. There are posters to these boards that have been raving about Realmz (for example) but have not purchased it. These selfsame folks are also very excited about creating and selling Coldstone-made games. Some are planning to give them away. But how?

Shareware distribution over the internet (by download, the least overhead/packaging/distribution expense) pretty much limits game size to under 50 Megs. Which requires the author to be limited to 8 bit graphics and minimal QT movies/animation (animated GIF or sprites)/music. Not what most in these lists seem to want to be limited to.

To create the 16/24 bit, animated, full screen movie, soundtracked, spell bound, mavelous item/weapon RPG will require man-years of work and boxed CD distribution. If your game is not 'good enough' for Ambrosia to take distribution, you will be left with almost no recourse, not even 'freeware'.

I am certainly NOT saying that one should not be excited over COLDSTONE or not purchase it... but, as the quoted message states, some here are putting 'the cart before the horse'. Get Coldstone, see what it can do, see what you can do with it... Then consider the possible games you might be able to finish in a timely manner with it. That others might also enjoy and, perhaps, buy.

If it's good, then it should not be very hard to get your RPG on a CD, or some other outlet.

I don't really care about making money off of my game -- unless it's deemed good enough by a software company for sale, it will be freeware. But I'm not even worrying about that -- Coldstone isn't even released, and the game is not made. When Coldstone is out, and my game is made, then I'll think about things like price and distribution. Until then, all I can do is wait.

Thats why you put the demo of your game on MacAddict and sell the full version on CD from your web site. Hey, it works for Ambrosia...

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do-- make the game and then decide.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to decide that stuff early.
