FF legends (II) style game with a twist

let's say I wanted to create a game with FF Legend II style game play, with all the modern improvements, would I be able to?

I think you can. I cannot get emulators for my comp (too damn slow) but the GB game FF was good. If you want to try that out, go ahead. I think that would be a hard enough task to try to duplicate the game and make it different at the same time.
