I am probably making a statement of the incredibly obvious, but does everyone realize the implications of Coldstone, if it lives up to what it's supposed to? (And I'm sure it will, considering the considerable clout of the two companies behind it...) There are hundreds, sorry, literaly thousands of artists out there brimming with truly good ideas. Most of these people know proggraming like Bill Gates knows credit card debt. Furthermore, let's face it, high level proggraming is about as easy to learn as applied metaphysics. And frankly, while there a lot of them out there, programers tend to have the imagination of a Casio Calculator. That's why combinations of talent like, say, to take an example, ahem Matt Burch (What?! Me? A fan? No, I don't become a fan. Fans don't have lives. No. I am not a fan. Uhh..... would you please sign this?) are very rare, and very noticeable... But if all that latent raw talent could be unleashed... the difference to the game market from this product alone could be amazing. Ambrosia is smart to consider distributing the best ones, because there are going to be a few true gems, I bet.

I definitely agree with you there -- I've met some incredibly talented people who are just waiting to have the right tool available to them, allowing them to bring to reality what resides in their imagination.

Well, the question is, I suppose, how are you going to select them? I mean, just about everybody and his brother is going to want to submit - and while most are going to be easily distinguishable as poor attempts, the flaws in quite a few won't be obvious until late in the game... or the benifits. I may be wrong, but won't you get flooded with submissions, and be hard pressed to put them all through quality control?

No, that's not an issue that concerns me. We have a good bit of experience evaluating games, and working with developers to make quality titles.

Now THAT is the one thing that makes me happy Ambrosia is now working with Beenox on this. This finally gives a chance for people who can create great games but don't no how to market them get the publicity they want. Although I still think Dee has lost a little bit of power (not in the creation of the engine itself), I think the release will be a whole lot better than it ever would have been. I am also soooo glad I bought it at $30, because it's worth a LOT more right now. I bet it will be released for at lease $50 if they go cheap on it. Or, they might charge what it deserves to cost and it will only be available for people with lots of free cash.
i have one question, i read the FAQ and i was wondering if it whould be possible, and if so how difficult, whould it be for me to sell the game on my own.

It will be possible, but it likely won't be very practical, unless you have a good infrastructure in place for sales, promotion, technical support, marketing, etc.
No prices or fees have been determined yet, nor will they be until the product is closer to release.

I think that Ambrosia doing this is one of the best moves you could have made. Now it will not only interest the pro's, but undiscovered pro's who have terrible marketing talents. AND you would get a profit off it. So, it's a win-win situation.
