LONDON and ROCHESTER, New York -- August 16, 2007 -- Introversion Software and Ambrosia Software announced today its plans for a DEFCON freeplay long-weekend in conjunction with the Penny Arcade Expo. The event will take place on Friday, August 24th at 18:00 GMT and run until Monday, August 27th at 06:00 GMT. During this time, DEFCON will be free for all to play.

To take part in the DEFCON freeplay weekend, simply head to http://www.everybody....com/downloads/ and download the free trial. For this limited period, the usual demo restrictions will be lifted and gamers will not be required to provide key codes to have access to the full game.

"DEFCON is a great game and this will be a fantastic opportunity for those who haven't yet played it to have a go," said Vicky Arundel, Head of Marketing at Introversion. "We're really looking forward to welcoming some newcomers to the DEFCON community and hope that this taster will leave you wanting to come back again."

DEFCON for PC is currently available to buy from Introversion's online store http://store.introversion.co.uk/ and from Steam http://www.steampowered.com. DEFCON for Mac is available for purchase from Ambrosia Software's web site at http://www.ambrosias...m/games/defcon/.

DEFCON is an online, competitive, multiplayer strategy game simulating global thermonuclear war. The game, inspired by the 1983 cult-classic film, WarGames, superbly evokes the tension, paranoia and suspicion surrounding the Cold War era. DEFCON was an instantaneous success, receiving an average of 85%+ in game reviews and scores of praise. PC Gamer UK described it as 'pure, deep, utterly unconscionable fun', whilst IGN awarded DEFCON an Editors Choice Award and praised it as 'highly impressive'.

I'm actually considering going out there to PAX, dependent on a number of things, of course, but if I do I'll be sure to check out the Introversion booth.

I was hoping that I was going to attend as well... could have shared the booth or something.

I probably won't make it now..

Spread the word about this to any and all who will listen. I think it's great chance for people to play the game and enjoy it!

I'm hoping to get an email tomorrow. If the email says what I hope it will say, I'll be going to PAX for sure.
