Do you need to do something such as port fording to host a game, if so what are the ports and such?

You should not need to do anything particularly special to host games. Basically, as long as you have your firewall configured properly, it should work. If I recall correctly, UDP ports 5009-5011 need to be open. If you are having trouble, even after checking your firewall (both on the computer and the router/DSL modem/whatever), there is an option for port forwarding in the options menu, which you can try.
If none of that works, some debug output is often generated. It should be located in ~/Library/Application Support/Multiwinia/ . Delete whatever is there, try to host a few games with various settings, then (if a new file is created), post the debug information here.
