EV/EVO Chronicles: The UE's Dread Chapters -3 -- Part -1

My view screen popped up almost as soon as I woke. Admiral McPhearson was staring right back at me.

"I need you here at 0900 hours!" he exclaimed and turned his view screen off.

My name is Brandon Tarpen. I have been training in the United Earth Naval Academy and have almost graduated with top grades in battle and tactics along with my good friend Andrew. I went down the winding hall ways until I reached McPhearson's office. I entered the circular room. McPhearson was sitting at his desk and in front of it were 7 chairs. 6 were already occupied, so I took the only vacant one next to Andrew.

"I don't know if any of you have read the newspaper" he told us. "But this story was taken from a hail to Bakka that was cut off." he said as he threw a copy to each of us. I read the heading on the front page.

SCOUTSHIP DISAPEARS AFTER VOINIAN ATTACK

As of yesterday Outpost Alpha received a hail from Scoutship Green. The pilot said he had important information about the Voinians and was being pursued by three Voinian Cruisers. Outpost Alpha lost communication after that and relayed it to Earth. Admiral McPhearson will be preparing a team to evacuate the pilot from the planet before the Voinians reach him.

I looked up as the others finished reading.

"Now most of you haven't completed the academy, but our graduates are holding Voinian rebellions towards Gualon and the Hinwar so it's up to you. Andrew Crushlino, Brandon Tarpen, and Lynn Insano will go to the surface where the Voinians are looking for him as the rest of you hold off the Voinians above the planet. I wish you all the best of luck. Meet in docking bay 6," he finished as we stepped up and walked out of the office. Lynn and I walked together as we reached the docking bay.

"Hey Brandon!" Andrew shouted. We got the important part, eh?"

Yes, yes but we have to get back alive so we can graduate from the Academy and not always be stuck with fighters," I said

"Hey! I like fighters!" Andrew said.

"Well, I'd like a powerful warship for once," I retorted. "They were nice when we were starting out but now..."

Yeah, we gotta go!" he said as he hopped into his fighter. I did the same and as soon as I was cleared I shot off towards the DSN-9418 system, taking one final look at the beautiful sphere, Earth. Before the jump to Centauri hit, I prayed that that glimpse of Earth wouldn't be my last...
