(Editor's note: In the interest of clearing some of the backlog of the EV/EVO Chronicles, I have combined chapters 1&2 and chapters 3&4 of The Battle of Sol into this post. Therefore, readers should be aware that although the subject title says that only chapters 1&2 are here, there are actually the first 4 chapters of this story presented here. Jude )
Ch.1 - The Beginning
It was a time of prosperity. In 2045 a new invention was created on Earth. The Hyper Driver. The world celebrated in its glory. It was attached to a space shuttle and with its speed, the flight to the moon took mere seconds. A colony was established and renamed Luna. The world rejoiced at their accomplishment. They settled their differences and decided to unite as one. Thus was the birth of United Earth.
As we pushed the limits of this device we made the first Hyper Jump. It took us places we couldn't imagine. Thus came the birth of the Freighter. The only problem with the Hyper Jump is that it took up a considerable amount of fuel. That's why the Freighter was made. It was large enough to hold the fuel provided for this exploration. It had huge solar panels for temporary energy and had limited speed even with the Hyper Driver. Still It ventured on landing on First Centauri. A colony was set up and the first interplanetary settlement was founded.
This continued until all inhabitable planets were inhabited around the perimeter of Sol. It was a time of exploration. New ships were designed and new outfits were built. All resources were put into the making of these creations. As United Earth looked in awe of their creation and in the power of humans, they knew that they could do anything.
No one knew what would come next. No one knew what a discovery could do until it happened. The days of exploration were over. What would soon come next would rock United Earth for centuries to come...

Ch.2 - The First Encounter
I leaned back in my captains chair. Today was just like every other day. I took a sip of a new drink that was founded on Saalia.
"Saalian Brandy. Huh. What a creative name" I chuckled as I reread it to my first mate. He chuckled as well. Not at the drink, but at my stupid joke. I started the engines and acknowledged ground control to move to runway 3.
"So what's our mission today Captain?" my first mate Charles asked.
"Explore the frontier" I said triumphantly.
"That's a big mission. No one's gotten past Centauri. On whose orders are we acting on?"
"Admiral McPherson himself!"
Charles looked at me like I was crazy. I assured him I'm not. I showed him the orders.
"You are cleared to leave First Centauri"
It was music to my ears. I started the Hyper Driver. Soon we were out of the atmosphere. I pressed a small green button on my control panel to bring up a map. I selected the unknown system.
"Here we go!"
I moved just a little bit farther from First Centauri until I heard a little beep signifying that I can leave the system. I pressed the red button as it started to blink. It was up to the autopilot now. We slowly turned to slow down. I heard the hum of the Hyper Driver warming up. We started to speed up. Faster and faster we went. I felt the many G's hitting us as we ventured into the unknown. Soon there was a flash of light as we entered the system.
"Bakka" I said thinking of my wife back on Earth. It was her last name. I scanned the system finding a lone planet. As I scanned it some more I found it inhabitable. I named the planet after my love as well. It was beautiful.
"ATTENTION: INCOMING TRANSMISSION"
I went to my communication systems to see an odd looking alien staring back at me.
"What the!!?!!"
"Identify yourself and your race, alien!"
I was amazed! I was making first contact with an unknown lifeform! I prepared myself as I spoke carefully.
"I am Captain Gerrard of the Scoutship Starseeker. I am traveling with my companion and first mate Charles. We are of the human race. We are from Earth. We come in peace"
I was amazed at how professional I sounded. I was happy to be a part of this discussion. I was awaiting a response.
"Take me to your leader"
I laughed as hard as I could at the most clichΓ© of things to say. I was so hysterical that my first mate had to take over the discussion.
"Yes. Follow us"
I finally got my glance at the ship. It was small. About the size of a shuttle. It had a red cockpit with small spikes on either size. As my first mate sent the being coordinates to the Centauri system. We started our Hyper Driver and started the Hyper Drive sequence. We entered the system with the new ship. I contacted the planet about the unknown lifeform.
"I have right here a being from another race. He would like to visit ----"
I was cut off as the small ship came up behind me and started to fire some sort of purple blast. Along with a primitive missile like weapon that rocketed me forward.
"What the heck?"
"Shields are depleted. We're down to our----"
Everyone watched in horror as the delicate Scoutship was obliterated by the small alien ship. The first 2 men to be struck down by what we would soon find out was a race of unexplainable destruction. A race of aliens that would strike terror in our hearts. A race of aliens called
Voinians...

Ch.3 - Realization
It was a shock to everyone. No one knew what to do. It was almost unreal. Ever since the scoutship Starseeker was shot down, all of mankind was shocked. Not only was there another intelligent race out there, but it even had combat capabilities to exercise (which we were lacking).
After what seemed like an awe phase, panic quickly struck. Everyone was afraid. Scientists suggested that it was just a cultural misunderstanding while UE officials speculated that the race was violent by nature. This soon turned into a heated debate. Riots broke out. Trade stopped. The once peaceful culture of humanity was suddenly turned into a hord of ravaging beasts. This went on for months when finally, Admiral McPhereson stepped up to bring some order. He suggested scouting and reporting to see what was actually happening. Since he did not want to risk any more lives, he volunteered himeslf. He departed to First Centauri.
When he made his way to the newly named Bakka, he found more of the small ships. As soon as he approached them however, they fired until he finally left the system. It was then that Admiral McPhereson realized what we were dealing with. It was then he realized that we needed to be prepared. It was then he realized that he needed a navy. It was then he realized that he was at war.
Ch.4 - War
I stood in line as the sergant passed by me.
"Attention!"
As soon as I looked up I saw the viewscreen with Admiral McPhereson's face on it. He straightened up and began to speak.
"Good evening. You all know why you are here. To destroy the Voinian threat. The only problemis that we have no warships. No weapons. No pilots. No navy or army. All we have is you." He chuckleda bit and continued, "All we have is you. You are just civilians who probably were scientists,at one point. Maybe explorers. Traders. Fathers. Mothers. Husbands and wives. You all have something to live for. Yet, you all have something to die for. If you think that you can stop the Voinian threat, you are dead wrong. Only we can. Together. I have reports that the Voinians are not happy with their discovery of us. I also have reports of an attack on Sol"
This news brought even more shock to everyone. Silent whispers ran through our squad as he continued.
"Our last line of defence hasn't even been thought of yet and we are will soon be attacked. I have put a line of scientists to work on new ships and weapons. However, we must meet them half-way by creating a force to use them. That is why I'm here. To welcome you to the United Earth Navy. Earth lies in your hands"
With that, the viewscreen went blank. I was almost uncomfortable with the responsibility that was given to us. But I thought better of it. We knew what we had to do. The sergeant turned to us and excused us until morning when we would begin training. I only hoped that we would make it through the night.
"Please God. Just through the night."

Hey Jive! Smashing story, but you're history of Escape Velocity is completely way off. The human race, didn't encounter the Vioinans (whatever they are called) but an aggressive race. But the story is quite interesting. Keep up w/ the good work!

In EV Override, the Humans did encounter the Voinians. They had a war with them that ended with the Battle of Sol. I believe the story is based upon the sequel, EV Override, rather than the original, Escape Velocity.

The war didn't end at the battle of sol. It still hasn't ended. Well... actuly for me it has. The humans have one battle group and no systems left. Hey _bomb if you are out there are you going to make a ROTV3 plug?

Actually the war DID end with the Battle of Sol. Politicly that is. Battles still went on but the "war" ended. Remember the whole negotiations thing on Pax?

Nope. A treaty was signed between the two races after the UE crushed over a third of the Voinian Empire's fleet (a.k.a. the Battle of Sol). Read the desc of Pax Station...
