HELP WANTED: pop-pop web site

(I could have sworn I wrote up a topic on this, but I can not find it! Maybe I forgot to click submit or something)

Hi there everyone, I updated to pop-pop web site, it still looks like dirt. I really don't have a lot of time on my hands, and I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would like to help make it better. After this web site is up and looking good, I will see about attaching to to a domain name. Right now the address is
(url="http://"http://www.foxchange.com/~poppop")http://www.foxchange.com/~poppop(/url)

If you would like to help out with the web site, here are a couple things that I would like to ask.

- Make it very easy to update and maintain. Keep it fun, but simple.
- For images that may change sizes, like the pop-pop Tournament information, please don't use width/height attributes.
- No WYSIWYG editors please. They create tons of extra HTML and it would make it impossible for me to update.
- Be creative, yet to the point!
- Create some new images that look really nice (not the quick job that I did)
- Assume I will tinker and mess with the web site. 🙂
- Use frames, I know, I hate them myself, but it makes it easy to maintain the web site.

And example of a good web site is my own, (url="http://"http://www.foxchange.com")http://www.foxchange.com(/url) very simple yet lots of content. Another idea would be to take an existing fan web site, and doctor it to fit the format. The main purpose of this web site will be:

- Point to upcoming tournaments
- Allow people to see results of past tournaments
- Point to the pop-pop web board, pop-pop's web site
- Any other simple, yet interesting information.
- Links

Again, if this goes well, I will see about getting it attached to a domain name. Thank you in advance!

"I most gladly would like to share the site and the organisation of tournaments, but I have very busy months ahead until May time I estimate:
(...) you will have understood I have little time.
But if anybody wants to host on his own server the pages and have them updated with new tournaments, I can send them through (or just download all pages & graphics)."
That was what MSX gamesbox wrote under the topic "tournament results" on the date of 24.2.03. I really don´t want to permanently praise MSX´site but maybe it would be some help for you if you hosted his page, or maybe just parts of it on your server? Just thought of it...

I don´t know anything about it whether your site looks like dirt or not, because I just see a blank site. I tried yesterday and today with the same result :frown:

- Links? (url="http://"http://squibix.net/pop/links.html")check(/url).
- Allow people to see results of past tournaments? Not yet anyways; but that's something much better left to the tournament organizers.

So while you're certainly welcome to put that stuff on yr own site--especially if you get a new domain for it, it'll no doubt become the most popular pop site--but you don't have to hurry on it if you don't want. If you want me to help with rankings on your site I'd be glad to do it, but I imagine you'll be able to come up with a better system than I have; I'm not very clever at these things I find! Id also be willing to help out in whatever other ways you need.

(Yes I know, I'm trying to hard. But that's cause I'm bored right now, and the weather is terrible dreary outside. What else am I going to do?! I hope no one takes my self-aggranizement too seriously; I mean it all in fun.)

You want us to make you the header and welcome html eh? 🙂 To bad I don't know php seeing as it seems to be quite simple to update and maintain sites written in php

Blame it on the terrorists!

The site doesn't display because of the body tag in there: frameset pages don't need, and indeed can't have, body tags. Also, if you're going to have frames should probably change the page's DTD: though it seems to work with loose, the W3C wants you to use 'frameset.dtd'.

Hmm, I don't know much about frames. I would like keep the HTML simple, although I don't really care about standards (like making iCab smile.) If someone wants to start working on a fix, go for it!

Anklebiter: Is this just a tournament site or an all around pop-pop site? If the latter then maybe I can help you... 🙂

I dunno if anyone remembers my old site (it's been a while) but I'd be willing to let you incorporate my design and even content if you want. It'd need to be divided into main sections however. Tips, Tournaments and whatnot. I'd be willing to help you adapt the code. Also images?... For content? I've honestly never seen that. Like for the tournament info. That can just easily be done in HTML 🙂

It was originally made in a WYSIWYG editor. But after I clean it up you won't be able to tell 😉 Also the horizontal width is fixed so that it doesn't look completely random widths. Perhaps the main sections can have a different width for the sub-sections, but in general it should remain the same. Also the current width should probably be a tad larger.

As for PHP, I do know some of that, but I am confused on what you want to do. Make a content management system? If so, then there's no need to reinvent the wheel, there's hundreds of them out there. I haven't tried many but greymatter is pretty flexible design-wise. It can look like what you want it to. The problem for me was that it has Subject, Content and 2 custom fields. But I needed more than that... But for this it shouldn't matter.

Anyways, if you're interested... talk to me 🙂

p.s. I have some 300 ppi images of the pops. They were made by a very helpful someone and are based on the banner at the top of each page.
