Instant messaging for Pop-pop would be great- for use in the tracker before engaging in a game with someone. Given this might lead to network lag but still a great idea to coax people to play insted of just sitting on the tracker not doing anything... I'm not flaming really.

what if you don't know SN's or whatnot.... this would connect the same way the chats in hosted games do...
Game titles sometimes work as a messaging system... but not too great.
I agree that an in-tracker message system would be nice, but I also agree with The Journalist that other chat and IM apps are an easy way to talk to friends while playing the game or before playing.
Plus, if you just used those, no extra code would have to be wasted on a new in-tracker message system...

I usually write VERY short messages by my name: word by word. it takes time but thats all i can get... I think we need a discussion place in the lounge so that we can talk about the game BEFORE and we can organise the game so everything is clear!
