Pop-pop Over Ethernet?

I have a connection to another of my computers (using an unregistered version of pop-pop) through ethernet, and my sister really wants to see if she can beat me in pop-pop... But we can only have one Internet connection active at once (we only have one phone line), so we cannot both connect to the Tracker. I'm just wondering: is it possible to connect to each other through the ethernet cable? If so, how do we do it? If not, is there any application I could get which would allow me to split my Internet connection so we could both connect through Tracker? Thanks in advance 🙂

If you have OS 9, just grab another mouse and share the table space.

If you have Jaguar, sharing a 'net connection is easy.
But, you can play over LAN, it's easy. One person hosts a private game, the other joins the private game, you'll need to know the IP of the host, though.

Does that work if you only have one IP# for both computers?

"Yes."

How do I host a private game? Do you just mean put a password on it, or do I have to do something else?

Oh, and one of my computers is a new (ish) iMac running OS X, but the other is an old rev. a iMac running 9... the problem with mice (mouses?) is that the newer computer (in X) has the newer mouse, and it won't plug in to the older computer, which is the only way I can play versus human mode. :frown:

<Edit>Another thing: if I do just host a normal game but with a password, I need to be on the Tracker. But, the other computer can't connect to the Tracker, because it's not online :frown: </Edit>

while you are on the tracker screen you're always "hosting" a private game. anyone can connect join this unlisted game if they know your IP address. you just have to find the IP address of one of your comps; go to the tracker window on both machines; the comp with the known IP is the host, so click "join private" on the other comp; enter the IP address of your first comp, and click join.

from there you should be able to play the game

hello MDWGMalc,

as others have said, all players in the tracker are "hosting" a private game. you just need to know their ip address to join.

if you are private joining a machine out on the internet you need their public ip address. if you are joining a machine on your local lan you need their local ip address (if you're behind a router then you have both a public ip and a local ip).

if your local lan is just a cable from one machine to the other then your local ip is whatever you set it to in the tcp control panel. if you have a router and use DCHP its whatever that gives you. in either case it probably starts with 128 or 192.
