unregistered question

recently, everytime i start up pop-pop, i get the "please register" warning:
Posted Image

this doesn't really bother me until i try to click either register or not yet. the screen flickers and stays the same. its annoying. i would understand it if it was on day 30, but its day 10. any ideas (note here that registration is not an option until the 15th of august.)

(edit) also, the only way to change the screen is to force quit(/edit)

When you register the annoying message will go away 🙂

yes yes, which is what i plan to do as soon as i pay off my credit card, but i'd like to play for the next 20 days. this issue with not being able to advance from this window is annoying.

hello antihero,

i'm guessing that you're on osx because its the platform that has weird window activation problems (and not just in pop).

are you running fullscreen?
if you are running in window are you switching to a different app when pop loads?

does switching to a different app (command-tab or dock) and then switching back to pop help? try switching back using the dock and by clicking on the reg window.

i'll try to reproduce the problem locally. hopefully this problem is only happening to you or else i'm going to have to release 1.0.2 much sooner than i planned. 😉

you are not obliged to wait 30 days to register and there are some perqs to registering early, like: access to all the pops, unlimited net play, and the ability to host games (which goes away on day 15).
registering pop early is a good thing! but of course im biased since your paying is directly related to how well i eat.

no other key stroke works, only the forcequit command option escape. i'm running it full screen, since in a window the mouse doesn't move right on start-up. i have usually one other app running, an irc client, but even without that, the problem happens. i am running 10.1 only, so that could be the issue.

this shouldn't be happening. Are you using a third party mouse? What if you hit Return or ESC?

hello again antihero,

can you elaborate about what's wrong with mouse movement on startup in window mode? i know you probably can't test that now since you're stuck at the register alert but please try to remember as much detail as you can.

why are you running osx 10.1 and not osx 10.1.5? (not being critical, just curious)

or did you mean to say that you are running pop 1.0.1? which is all that you could be running because 1.0.2 doesnt exist and 1.0.0 was never released. hmm.

We need a version 1.0.2 badly! Give me a sign and I can get together a list of bugs that need to be fixed..

Just to be clear here - I'm running 10.1.5, windowed, and right at start up (when the game loads) my mouse also freezes for a few seconds - then control returns. No big deal.

no, i am using an apple optical mouse, in os 10.1 on a graphite imac 600. return or escape wouldn't even make the screen flicker, that was only the mouse. i finally downloaded 10.1.5, and now it works fine.

with the mouse issue, when i started up in a window in 10.1 the mouse would move very slow, the cursor moving every 10-15 seconds. no key stroke would work (the command f to full screen) so i had to unstuff it again and make sure when i quit to put it into full screen mode. it was kinda wierd, it seemed as if the mouse wasn't even registering. i could click on the dock and go to another program, but pop-pop never started up right in a window for me. i even tried turning off the blue flickering stuff, thinking it was a ram problem or a graphical issue, but that never worked. sometimes, i could select the file option and change the screen to full, and it would regain mouse control, but doing that took a few minutes and a lot of patience.

as with the osx issue: i used 10.1 since this is my dads computer, and never wanted to tie up my dial-up line with a 45 meg download. i did finally get it, as i hoped it would improve pop-pop, and it did.

i have tried pop-pop version 1.0.0 (that is the version on the ambrosia cd # 7 which i got today in the mail. i did think that was odd, since i had downloaded 1.0.1) and 1.0.1, both of which had this problem in 10.1

i don't really know what to say, all i know is that after i tried pop-pop again, after writing this little bit above, i finally downloaded the 10.1.5 update and everything works great, the buttons work, the register window thingy works, the start-up in a window is smooth again.
