As far as I know, these have no effect in-game. I believe this advertises how good you are so other people about your skill can get play with you. If you're a god at the game playing on novice, chances are you'd get newbies and no one good to play with. If you're a newbie playing on master elite, you'd get only the best people, who would stomp you completely. If there IS an effect on the game, please tell me.

This has been covered in another post before.. yes you are correct, they don't have an effect on the game itself. But if you are new to the game and someone is sporting a dark red M+, you may want to think twice before joining.

You're thinking of skill level. This is game type.
more rather, "style". it does say style dont it? but in an update, i think it shoudl be replaced with "skill" or "type" as thok says

Yeah, I didn't see the part where you can change the skill level where you pick your characters. My mistake.

What does it mean when you have an, "elite," rating? I mean whats the differentce between them?

When you are hosting a game, during the game name select screen, it asks you to pick between novice, pro, and master, along with an elite option for each of them. This is what we are talking about, not the easy, normal, hard, expert thing.
The elite just means a little better. If novice and pro were 1 and 2, then novice elite would be 1.5 and pro elite would be 2.5

Quick stupid newbie question: What are all the colors on the tracker- none/gray = Game in progress white = Free game? red = new free game?

White is a game free, yes. Red means the connection is bad and someone may get dropped.
More accurately, red means that the game hosted is behind NAT (sharing a single IP across multiple machines), so while it will probably work, it's an indication that NAT will prevent things from working.
