Remember to read the help information!

I have been playing pop-pop for a while now as a tester, it is a fun game. During that time, there were not too many opponents. Recently there has been a huge flux of newbies, and I have been having a blast!

There are a couple things that are really standing out that I have noticed. People are not always looking over the pop-pop help section. I have coached a couple new players myself, but I can't coach everyone. I have seen a lot of people who are just jumping into the game, and reading over the help, and missing some very important information you need!

People not knowing about the magnet, how to use special attacks, sending bricks over to the other side, getting them back as solid bricks, all things covered in the help section!

Just saying to read over the help, you won't regret it, and you will make a much more challenging opponent! See ya on the tracker!!!

You just enjoy slaughtering the poor newbies, you sick twisted vindictive bastard.

If you normally figure out a game by pushing buttons randomly, this is not the game to do that. After being slaughtered, I went back and read the rules. It helps a lot. I still suck though :p.

The one thing that baffles me - and the manual is no help - is when a special attack can be used. Sometimes you press the secondary fire button and nothing happens, while at other seemilngly random times the special attack activates. What's the pattern here?

You have to hold down the secondary fire button while the special attack 'fills', but you have to do it before the ball hits the paddle again, or it will be lost. The attack activates when the ball hits the paddle again after being charged.

From what you've written, it sounds like it may be a question of how many yellow bars of power you have. You must have at least four bars to be able to power up your pop; you get an extra bar each time the ball hits the bat. Perhaps you are using your primary fire button to charge the bat all the time and don't have enough bars left to power your pop.

As dampeoples and Alex said, charging your special power requires at least 4 bars of power, and must not be interrupted by any mouse clicks or holds. Trying to charge your paddle while powering up your special will cancel it, as will holding down your mouse button to activate your magnet. And, if the ball hits your paddle before your special power is fully charged - you lose it.

Which forces you to send the ball in a trajectory that will take the required amount of time for you to sucessfully charge your power. Once charged (indicated by the highlighted power) you can then use your magnet or power up your paddle if you have power bars left over.

However, you cannot charge another special power until you send the current one, which will be unleashed on your opponent when your ball hits your paddle. Miss the ball, and you lose your special power.

Also, if you start to charge your power, and then stop, you will lose those power bars. There is a short delay before they are committed, so if you immediately change your mind you may not lose power.

Hrm. One more example of when a 'sticky' topic function would come in handy. I also agree, all newbs (including me) should read over this topic.
