It is so small.
Do any of you know how long it takes to load the OC bar on a dialup connection? Especially after I had been checking all winter on my school's T3 line? Dear god, it hurts to watch the transfer rates!
Pallas, Joveia, Pharris and all that are running the rpgs I probably won't be able to be very active (if at all!) due to internet usage constraints. I get about 2 hours a day, max, at night or after work. Not to mention girlfriend, friends, 4-day training seminars up the Dalton highway, etc, etc. My apologies.
God I wish I had DSL. Do any of you know some good strageties to get technophobic and/or set-in-their-ways parents to relent and get some real bandwidth? Or at least a second freakin' phone line?

You can type your RPG story up and then log on for the 4 or 5 minutes it takes to post. Of course, if the story changes alot by then, your post will be invalid. However, I doubt it will change much on this board, and I think most people would make allowances for you.
On another note... If you have to join an RPG, join mine.

Well, I have a dial-up (but a second phone line) and load time doesn't seem all that bad - I may spend an extra 10 or so minutes waiting for a load within the stretch of a few hours, but it doesn't seem that significant. What speed do you dial up at. I used to average in at 20k but the lines got better and now we get between 28 and 31. Joveia's idea is great, and I don't think any RPG can change so much in 5 minutes that your post would be invalid - I guess it could happen, but much less often than not.
Oh, I kinda dropped from the RPG world because I left weekend before last and then I broke my ankle last Wednesday. I was more or less stuck with my leg elevated, on my sofa, for 4 days. So, way way way too much has been said, and I still have to elevate every once in a while, so I'm out. I guess my character will die, but I could hand him to someone else if they wanted it. Of course, he makes a great extra.....

DSL is cheaper than an ISP and a second phone line, just tell her that, thats how i got DSL.

2k per second. pathetico
i got 800bytes per sec on my old 56k
Sometimes, I get 8 bytes. THAT'S ALL. Not 8 bytes per second, but 8 bytes.
I have a 56k atm.
I've never noticed much of a difference between my school's T1 and my 56K. Of course, I have no concept of time.

I dial in at 32, but I download at 2k most times. My browser will often say it is loading something at 0 bytes per second, which confuses me, because it still loads, but it takes a second usually.
I've got a cable modem, but I have noticed this last week Ambrosia's website seems slower than usual...

Probably from people trying to download Nova...
Actually, I was told yesterday that DSL has finally become available in my area. Which means I may have a high speed connection sometime very soon.
Errrr.... No DSL for me. The nearest switchboard is who knows how many miles away. We still get the stinking ads though.
Our local cable company ran lines through our neighborhood, but hasn't activated them. It will be a year next month since they were put in. INCOMPETENCE!!!! Ugh.

DSL won't come to my area. I'm close enough to a switchbox, but since the telephone company used aluminum wire instead of copper it won't support DSL.
Never mind, it actually isn't. It is available about 250ft up the street, but not where I live.
I stoped using 56k a long time ago, I can't even think about how slow that is, I normally get around 70-120k/sec from ambrosia.

I know what you mean. I cant get DSL because the phone lines around me are "unstable" Which pisses me off. Because I just moved 2 blocks away from my last house where I had DSL and now I cant have it..

It is like they are taunting us, dangling the high speed internet just out of reach...
Say "to hell with it," buy a T3 cable (or workable equivelant) and sell access to your neighbors. Who needs DSL/Cable?
Actually, we were considering doing that around here. Of course, now that half of the neighborhood can get DSL, they have no reason to bother sharing a T3 with the other half.
