EVN 3D is not possible, right? what about the "Most Realistic Space Simulator" FreeSpace 2? It's availiable for free if you want to creat a mod for it, however the missions you can make are more "Follow This ship destroy that one" type missions so you would not be able to have complex storylines check this site out for more details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeSpace_2
Oh, Freespace 2. I have heard about that game, but the fact that's it has reached its tenth anniversary should be somewhat dismaying; it's too old to support a new fan base, in my opinion. Better to start with something newer.
