Your easy guide all the ships in Escape Velocity: Nova

Hey all, I've started up a similar guide to NTG (Nova Trade Guide) which lists all of the ships in Escape Velocity: Nova, with the help of my friend 'none'. The Nova Ship Guide (commonly abbreivated NSG) is a detailed guide to every single ship in the game and lists these ships in an easy to read, yet detailed format.

The account for each ship will contain the following criteria (in this order)..

Ship Title

Pretty straightforward concept 😉

Image

Here I will post an image (taken from the shipyard resource files) of the particular ship in order to help the reader identify ships from others, and be able to locate and purchase/hire/capture one him/herself.

Stats

Basically copy and pasting everything in the ships 'shďp' resource for your viewing:

Speed
Acceleration
Turn
Shields
Armor
Guns
Turrets
Cargo
Fuel
Length
Mass
Crew
Cost
Strength
Deionize
Max Ion.
Buy Random
Hire Random

Ship Descriptions

The first paragraph will be a personal description of the ship through my experience of the game, it's good points, the bad, costs, what it's good at, where you'll find them, elaboration of variant notes etc.

The second will be the official shipyard descirption, so readers can get an even better idea about the history of the ship and the words of the game itself (which however, are sometimes misleading, but true all in the same).

Pros

Shortlist of good things.

Cons

Shortlist of bad things.

This should be about it for each ship, and as well as accounts on every ship in the game, as with NTG, the sub-forums that NSG comprises of are restricted only to replying to topics. You won't be able to create topics, but you will be able to comment on each ship account etc.

I have opened up, like with NTG, a 'Requests, Support and General Discussion' sub-forum where you can request new features for the guide, new ships I might have missed out, seek support on how to use the guide if you're confused, and the place to discuss your favourite ships or whatever you might want.

Please note that these are only preliminary plans as to how the guide will look, so please mention here any features you'd like to see in NSG before I start proper work on it.

This is what I've progressed with so far today:

- Created forum with sub-forums
- Added following ships to Federation section:

Federation Viper
Federation Anaconda
Federation Scout Ship
Federation Patrol Boat
Federation RAGE Gunboat
Federation Destroyer
Federation Carrier

You should include the stock weapons for each ship.

Don't quite agree with everything on there, though it seems to be aimed more at generalized playing style/ability as opposed to spcialized styles or high level ability, which most everything else here discusses.

If it helps, you might want to check my Close Combat Guide, since not everything in there is my own opinion. These threads may also be useful. And they're not all mine, just the first four.

You might also want to consider using the Escape Velocity Nova Wikia for information gathering.

Yeah, it's mainly aimed at just giving general information on ships, for simple comparisons and reference. Nothing too fancy, like comparison tables or really detailed specs. That is, unless I get bored enough 😛

Well, I don't think it's fair to say that everything in NSG is my own opinion. Two other people have now been recruited to writing for the guide. Also, each and every guide to a ship is open for debate and discussion, which is meant as a means for other readers to put in their say on things, which can then be added to the compilation of opinions already in the ship description. At the moment however, yes, most of the content is of my opinion, but that's not what I aim for the final guide to be. Like NTG, I'm hoping this guide will be one that is openly contributed to.

So yes, if you don't agree, feel free to voice your opposition! 🙂

Thank you for the links by the way, I'll have a look through in due course.

Nice idea, but to what purpose would this apply to?

Progress since this afternoon..

- Added following ships to Polaris section

Polaris Sprite
Polaris Cambrian
Polaris Manta
Polaris Striker
Polaris Zephyr
Polaris Dragon
Polaris Arachnid

So, having finished the Trade Guide, you're doing a ship guide?

Well, this should go considerably faster. Though I'd suggest that you include variants of the ships, as people tend to have ShipVariants installed on their computers. Some don't, but even so, you can upgrade escorts to other variants, and people will still like to know the loadouts of the ships' weapons.

Just thought I'd let you know. 🆒

NTG will never finish I guess, it's always open for new trade routes 🙂

I've considered the variants idea already, there's one simple reason I'm not going to do it. If I were to list variants for every single ship, that would pointless, unless I added additional information on each variant as to why it gets better/worse in certain situations. This means multiplying my workload for the guide something like 5 times in an attempt to satisfy this criteria by looking through the Nova resources, typing them up and writing comparison paragraphs. However, in some particular ship descriptions I mention particularly good variants of the base model (like the 'Manta' post, I mention the Nil'Kimas version, and the Pirate Valkyrie in the future). But yes, I see the validity of such a section in each account, simply don't have the effort or time to do it in detail.

Completely understandable. There are other things in life to do, and while it's nice for people to know everything about a ship and its variants, you just shouldn't have your life centered around it.

A couple of new ships have been added by Bubb9

- Auroran Abomination
- Vell-os Dart

Update. Added the following ships to NSG.

Auroran Thunderforge
Auroran Carrier
Auroran Enterprise
Auroran Argosy
Auroran Phoenix
Auroran Firebird
Auroran Cruiser
Vell-os Arrow
Vell-os Javelin
Polaris Raven
Polaris Scarab

No new ships as of recent, but NSG has had a huge makeover. It's now more dark/futuristic, same thing with NTG too.. if you access either forum from the forum index it will automatically change to that skin. Boy do i love phpBB3 🙂
