I tried them both again with a new conjuror. Even the grayed out one I can go to without solving the puzzle. Rather odd...

Rather odd, indeed. I can cross that spot in any direction, click on it, whatever, and as long as the puzzles are not solved, I don't teleport anywhere. You didn't install a plugin to bypass the puzzles, did you? Nothing else makes sense.
