I'm not familiar with Coldstone so I'm not sure whether this would work or not, but LifeKnight made me think about it with his plug for an Inn and Shop in Dernath. I didn't want to hijack his thread so I'm posting a new topic. There are many areas in Garendall that could be enhanced or changed after a certain event takes place. For example:
1. With LifeKnight's idea, is it possible for the Inn and Shop to appear after the Cyclops are cleaned out? If so, maybe Dernath could eventually grow into a major town that would generate more quests.
2. The Cyclops camp is just empty space after they are gone. Maybe a new Resort could pop up and offer sailing charters to more offshore islands with more quests.
3. The guarded gate to the Cyclops camp could be changed to an information center about the new commercial development. There's no need for guards to pace around saying "Thank You!"
3. Gwyden Camp has the same people walking around after the bridge is completed. Could this be turned into a major trading camp or something equally useful after the bridge quest?
I guess what I'm asking is, can you change a map after an event takes place? This would open many possibilities for a continuing game, even opening up the town of Garendall after the Guardian and the Sea Giants are disposed of.

I know that 3 and 3 will be nigh impossible to do since they are in original PoG. Coldstone users have no knowledge of the NPC names in the file, so they can't be changed. You could place other people on those same maps though, advertising or selling new wares (Stark did this for SE). Now that I think about it, #2 may also be a problem seeing as I don't think a plugin maker could tell when the cyclopes had been killed. Adding more shops to Dernath is possible, but again, it would be hard to figure out when to start building/offer quests after the cyclopes.
I haven't actually used coldstone myself, but that's what I've picked up from around here. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along and confirm or deny what I've said.

MickyBls, thanks for your input. There has to be some way to do more with this game. I guess I'm so EV oriented that I'd like to see the same possibilities with PoG.

Like I said in the other thread, it would be immposible to make the shop activeate after the Cyclops are killed, unless Ambrosia (we've given up on Beenox, haven't we?) wants to tell us the name of the global variable which gets changed after the Cyclops are dead. As for quests...I don't know. I like to leave stuff like that up to Ducky and Stark. I mean, if I'm making a quest plugin ( ) which is just for me, okay. But with stuff like that I would have to send it to beta0testers which would be a major hassle with my pokey modem, seeing as the only free web space I have is with my email account, and...for now, no quest plugins or plugins that would require third-party beta testing for me, until I have constant access to a DSL line (not for some time now).

You don't have totally insurmountable problems, you just have difficult ones. For instance, If you want something to happen after the cyclopes are cleared out, you could place and item (by load call) near one of the treasure chests in that square. The player would find it almost impossible to pick up this item before he had done away with the cyclopes. If the player then has this item in inventory, then the events of your plugin can happen.

is it possible to input cron delays like in Nova? if what you said works RubberDucky it wouldn't make much sense for you to come back to a sprawling city right after you killed the cyclops.

The "city," which in reality is still an east coast fishing village, can be built up gradually by the use of globals that do not let things happen until certain conditions have been met. A cronology delay would not work because PoG does not have a calander. As far as the game goes, everything could happen in the same day. But in building a plugin, you can make is so that the player has to travel somewhere else before a second building is erected (thus allowing some semblance of elapsed time.)
This is sounding better all the time. There are tons of ideas that could be used to make the kingdom of Garendall grow and develop as you play. Maybe I'll give Coldstone another try. The first time I tried it I gave up. I couldn't even follow the tutorial. I think I was uptight at the time and wasn't pleased that I couldn't just walk right in and make a plug that worked. After all, I'm an engineer with graphics design experience, I write several computer languages, and everything should fall right in line for me. Right? Well, maybe this old codger should just get back on the horse again with a different attitude. I've learned a lot from you people on this board. I see your troubles and your victories. I see people helping people. And, I see the excellent plugs that have come out in spite of the difficulty of learning Coldstone. This is a great community. Aw Shucks, I'm getting carried away now.
Anyway, I guess I'll have to wait until Coldstone gets fixed before I can do anything. I still have faith that Ambrosia AND Beenox will come through for us. As Davy Jones once said, "Don't give up the locker" or something like that.
If you have faith in Beenox, give it up. Ambrosia will help us and is trying to help us, but as for Beenox, they have yet to respond to Cha0s's petition, emails, and snail mails. The Coldstone community (which is mainly Stark, Pilky, GrahamVH, LifeKnight, Rubber Ducky, Tarnaelion Andiyarus, Ledorax, Kryten, OgreBob, and Debra) is about to start a riot. Please speak for yourself. You placed my name on that list and I have voiced very few complaints with Coldstone. In fact, several times I have said that when things go wrong, it is more often the fault of the person using the software.
Of course I still am on a machine with OS 9.2 and expect to be for a while. My Daddy won't buy me a computer which can handle OS X. I figure that when a fix for the Panther problem is found it will include a way to make my plugins work too. There are others in your short list above that also have not gone to OS X yet. An increasingly large segment of the players of PoG use Windows, and are therefore not affected by the Panther problem.

Can't give it up! Otherwise, all is lost. This is a two sided affair. We have faith in Ambrosia because we know they are good guys. They are working with Beenox to solve our problems. We have to have faith that Beenox will respond. I'm sure you know a lot more about this problem than I do but calling for a riot never solves anything. My wife has an excellent axiom she uses when faced with difficult situations. She always says, "Kill em with kindness." It works! I'm sure this problem with Coldstone and PoG will all work out eventually. Have faith friend.
Sorry Ducky, I didn't exactly mean you were complaining about Coldstone. You are just part of the Coldstone community. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
