I haven't played PoG in a while, simply because on my last computer, the saving bug stopped me from playing and I didn't feel like creating a text document and such to save. I remember the first part of the game being pretty much a piece of cake for the Swordsman, but when I started playing today, suddenly it's so hard it's frustrating. Goblins hit me almost 1/3 of the time, whereas I hit them much less. They also do about 7 or 8 damage normally, 10 at most. I remember them doing only about 3 or so most of the time. The only plugins I have on are Trinity, Spells Expander, Sapphire, and Damsels in Distress. I am also using a registered version of PoG, version 1.02.
On a side note:I turned off Sapphire and Damsels in Distress because I wouldn't be doing those quests soon anyway, and thought they might be causing the goblins to become stronger for some reason. However, a window starts to pop up when I load my game, and then PoG freezes. Only the brown outline of the window is visible. Why is this occurring?
Also, any word on when the saving bug will be fixed? And why hasn't Beenox fixed it yet in over a year since it's discovery? It should take only a few hours or days, not years.

Hi Tanis. Welcome back. You will find the answers to the "fix" problem (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum61/HTML/001379.html")here.(/url) Read the two posts by Glenn in particular.
I don't know why you are having a greater problem with the Goblins. Perhaps you had more armor on last time. Also I don't know about your mystery window. Sapphire and DiD should not effect the Goblins in PoG. There are some new Goblins in Damsels which are a different breed. The Swordsman in Trinity is not exactly the same as the Swordsman without Trinity, but he quickly gets his strength up as the game progresses.
Good luck with your new game. I hope you like Damsels is Distress. ~RD

Rubber Ducky, I am using DiD 1.00 and when it is on, the goblins do get stronger. I usually find myself turning it off until later. Maybe this was fixed in a later version. I should probably update to 1.1.1, only the file is too $&^#%!@ big.

Hey KL!
Granted, I don't have a dial up connection (which I gather you do), but I think the revised DiD will be well worth your effort.
Why not just download it and go to bed, to work, to lunch?
Just a thought from a techni-bo-bo who may be talking out her .....
Hugs on ya, P.

Thanks for the welcome. As for equipment, all I have right now is a War Axe that I found, the best boots, and the best belt available in Fantrima. When last I played PoG and first started out with a Swordsman, Goblins were a piece of cake. Now, they're so hard it's not even funny. I've died at least ten times now fighting them. I'll try turning DiD off, maybe that could be causing a problem, as LifeKnight noted.

There are four types of Goblins in DiD and there is no change in them from version 1.00 to 1.1.1. The four are: Goblin - resides in Goblin Ghetto and Loogor's map. Evil Goblin - Ghetto only. Goblin Buddy - resides in Goblin Ghetto, Loogor's map, and selected treasure spots. New Goblin - has a different look (darker) and is more evil.
I tried to construct the plain Goblin as close as I could to the PoG Goblin, but there is no way I can find out exactly what PoG sets as the Goblin's stats so it's a guess. I don't know for sure even what they name the Goblin. Perhaps we have the same name for the NPC. I would not expect PoG to replace their goblins with mine when the map loads, but I suppose it could happen if the names are the same. This would, I think, only affect the square one north of Fantrima.
That brown thing you are seeing is a problem I use to have, it is PoG trying to tell you that the 2 plugs are missing, and asking if you want to start anyway. Try loading PoG in a window and see if you have the same problem.

Funny....I loaded PoG in a window(Because when it's in fullscreen, the resolution is so small it's rather annoying), and the error message came up as it should.
RD: Yep, it's definately DiD that was making the Goblins Uber hard. I took it out of Plugins and put it into "Plugin Crap" :), where I put all plugin readme's, folders, etc. in case I need them in the future. Now, Goblins are easy as usual. The goblins that I found who were really hard were the ones one square north of Fantrima and one square west, where you rescue the boy from the Goblins. Also, I think the ones in the Swordsman's Arena may have been stronger as well. Try making a new character(Any should work) and testing it to try to reproduce the problem I had.

Try hitting on some Goblins in the forest just west of Fantrima. There is no "load call" in DiD for that map, so the Goblins should be unaffected by any plug-in. If you head south from Fantrima first, you can gather some gold one south, two south (stay north of the river), next square west (avoid the theives who gather south of the river on the western edge), and then go one north into the square with Morgo's Termite Farm. You can make a circle of those squares and collect about 200 gold pieces before you've met the first Goblin. That's enough to buy some better protection. Then, and only then, head into Goblin Forest west of Fantrima. ~RD

I'll do that. I'm surprised no one has said anything about this before. I guess most people are starting with a character already muscularly developed.
Ducky, here is a tip: In addition to the "full" DiD download wich you already have on your website, you should also have an "update" download which only includes the version <1.1.1> Data001.dat file (no music or sounds), and include instructions to replace the old data file with the new one. This makes the download much shorter, because it is the music that takes up most of the space, while only the data file is updated.
I hope I have made myself clear, as I would really like to update damsels, even though I can't play it until Ambrosia or Beenox comes out with the damn update.

Oh, and, congratulations on becoming a moderator.
If you want stats for the PoG Goblin, note this: In the Coldstone Manual on the computer, under NPC editor, they actually show the stats for Goblin.npc
