So, I'm having a bit of trouble with Mission Computer (which I just redownloaded this morning and I haven't gotten it to work yet.). Namely, I can't get it to access the Nova files so that I can make a plugin editing a ship (or whatever). Now, I haven't made a plugin for about five years now, and then only for EVC. But I remember that EV-Edit had accessed the EVC files and then let me make a plugin to make a kestrel more or less powerful.
However, when I open up Mission Computer preferences, and choose 'Nova Files' in the EVN folder, it doesn't recognize any of them.
BTW, I'm using OSX 10.4, so, yeah. Any help would be appreciated.
You can open a data file directly by simply going "Open ". The thing in the preferences wants you to choose the Nova Files folder so that it can access all of the data files in there.
EV-Edit, if I recall correctly, used a somewhat-confusing paradigm by which the entire contents of the EV Data file appeared in every plug-in you created; MissionComputer shows you only what's actually there.
If you want to edit a resource from the original game, then open the appropriate Nova Data file, copy the resource to the clipboard, and then close the file. You can now create a new plug-in, paste the resource, and make whatever changes you want.
The field in the Preferences window isn't for opening the files, it's for telling MissionComputer the location of the folder so that it can help you find resource IDs.
