Ship not appearing

doesn't show up in shipyard

I have designed a ship and gotten graphics for it, but it still won't appear in the shipyard. Any idea why?

There are several possible reasons for why a ship doesn't show up. The one's I can think up off the top of my head are:

  • The Availability bits are preventing it from showing up

  • You might need some Require bits set (I haven't gone through the Nova code in very much detail, so that's just a shot in the dark)

  • The TechLevel was not entered correctly

  • Another ship of the same Display Weight is preventing it from appearing (do any of the standard ships have that bit set?)

  • If you have it set to only appear some of the time, you might just be that unlucky

You missed one reason... He might not have set the buyrandom field (in the ship resource) to a positive number. Since you probably want your ship to show up 100% of the time, it shoud be set to 100.

In fact, that was PBoat's last point.

Oopsie, I thought he was talking about bits with crons or something like that.

Well, since I can't see anything wrong with it, I've attached it, so if anyone can find anything wrong with it, I would be extremely grateful.

Hmm, attachment doesn't appear, very strange...

Are you sure you hit "show in post" after attaching the file?

There's a limit of 100k per post. If it's too large, try removing some images from it or something - I'm sure they won't be necessary for us to help you.

Ok, took out everything I could, but its still too big for one post, so I' gonna post the ship here and the pics in the next ones.

Here's the pics...

And here's the rest of it. Sorry about spreading it out, but it was really big, even after I compressed it.

Ship RID 896 is out of range, it needs to be from 128-895. I think 895 is reserved for the escape pod, but I could be wrong. Try a lower number.

I use anything in the mid to high 500's. These are guaranteed open, unless you've already used them.

That worked, thanks guys. 😄
wanders off, muttering,"How could I have missed it?"

But now, strangely, when I buy the ship or hire it as an escort, as I leave theplanet the game crashes. What gives?

Well I'd assume that's a problem with the shan/sprites, though I don't have .rez convertor on me right now to check it out.

Did you also change the ID of the shan?

Yep.

I don't think the rles have been imported quite right. Check this post for how to import.

Also create a debuglog and take a look at it. It's usually fairly helpful for finding problems.

To create one, simply stick a blank text (not a word file, it must be a text file, as created by notepad or an equivalent) named debuglog.txt in the main nova directory, and launch nova. Work up to the point where it crashes, then take a look at the log.
