Im working on my own little expansion for nova and i was wondering if you can do a Heat Seeking Missile. One where you dont target anything and it flys towards the nearest hostile.
Thanks -The Cheat

Sure, you can make a homing weapon which quickly submunitions into another one and check the flag that says "Submunitions fire toward nearest valid target".

Except that it doesn't work quite like that. I tried it once.

What if the carrier weapon isn't homing but the submunition is?
It's funny, reading that old topic. Entarus' "They're probably not going to get to a 1.0.7..." bit.
Here's an interesting question: what happens if the submunition can only damage planets?

That's mentioned in the same topic. It causes an effect that Uncle Twicthy was very interested in.

Okay, so if you just have a homing weapon which submunitions once into another homing weapon with the "fire toward nearest valid target" flag, how would it behave? If the player has a target selected, it will still follow that target, yes? But what if the player has no target. Won't the submunition pick a target and home in on it?
Hey eugene doies your seeker plugstill work because I can't get it to download.

Hmm... I asked Krypt-tokh6 to host that for me ten months ago. If his hosting situation has changed since, that would explain it.
I should look into getting the file onto the Addon's page.
Ok thanks I'll look for it. Does anyone know if the add-ons page is fixed? Never mind I'll go look myself.
Alright, I just remembered that pipeline mentioned something was wrong with the ftp servers.
I wasn't able to upload the plug-in. I'll try again when they aren't acting up.
I can host it for a little while if you'd like.

(Edit) Hold on, I'm just noticing a problem with the archiving. The creator data gets messed up.
The resources come through fine though. I can try to fix the problem on my end, or, if you want, I can just send the file.

Entirely up to you.
Thanks you guys for the assist.
Is it up yet if so where?

Add one more stage of submunitioning before the final seeking projectile, and it'll randomly select any ship in the system...hostile or not.
At least, it does in EVN 1.0.6. I don't know if it changed in some revision since, well, I haven't downloaded any updates since then yet.

Why is another stage needed? What's stopping it from working the way I mentioned?
Bugs, probably. Go bug Matt about that one.

Technically, it is working. For most guided weapons, the only target it can hit is the initial target, unless specified otherwise (I need to see what effect this has on the weapon). Each submunition is aimed at the parent munition's target. That's why the weapon can track after a cloaked target.
