I am in the planning stages of designing a plug-in, and have a question to how you might do this:
I want to have mercenaries, or ship personnel, the player can hire -- but I want the merc to be in the ship instead of showing up in its own ship, like an escort would. Integral to this idea is that the player will need to pay wages every day/week/month (TBD later) like you would expect from any old merc.
How would you go about this? Should I create the merc as an escort-to-hire with no graphics + invincibility (but then cause the player to have one fewer real escorts available), have the escort as an outfit (and maybe use crons to ask for money?), or have the merc as cargo (with crons also, I guess)?

Don't use a crön, use a ränk. Using a crön would require a mïsn in addition.
What would the escort do? Help your capture odds?

There's a ModType for that (25). ModVal is the number to add to your ship's crew.
Personally, I would use a rank for the wages, it saves on resources.
