How do you make an outfit that upgrades one ship to another (such as the Chrome Valkyrie)? I'm using EVNEW.

Use one of the C/E/Hxxx commands in the OnPurchase field
Quote
From the EV Nova Bible: **Cxxx - change the player's ship to ship type (ID) xxx. The player will keep all of his previous outfit items and won't be given any of the default weapons or items that come with ship type xxx.
Exxx - change the player's ship to ship type (ID) xxx. The player will keep all of his previous outfit items and will also be given all of the default weapons and items that come with ship type xxx.
Hxxx - change the player's ship to ship type (ID) xxx. The player will lose any nonpersistent outfit items he previously had, but will be given all of the default weapons and items that come with ship type xxx. **

I don't want the upgrade to work on every ship, just one type of ship. Do I need to worry about that?
Yes. Use the contribute/require fields for the purchases. For all the ships you want to be able to purchase the upgrade, add in an unused contribute bit. For the upgrade outfit, add that same require bit.

What are the unused contribute bits?
Sorry, yet another stupid question.
NCBs right?

900 - 990 are generally safe, but commonly used so it would be likely to clash with other plugs.

Um, that's not what he's asking for. I don't know which contribute bits aren't used, but there may be a list somewhere on the add-ons page. A brief, incomplete list of used bits (I'm just looking at a few resources): A1, B1, C1, D1, E1, F1, G1, H1, A2, B2 (seems to be "illegal"), A5, E5, F5, A7, H8, G8 There are probably more, but ResEdit/Classic just crashed, and I don't want to bother to start it again. Still, I don't think I'm missing that many. You could also just use a mission bit instead of a contribute/require bit: set the bit onPurchase & onCapture, and unset it onRetire.

Yeah, but what if the player already has the ship and then puts in the plug-in? it won't work.
Just use Contribute/Require. You need only use 10 Contribute/Require bits, and that could handle an extra 256.
