All-
I was recently experimenting with a series of missions that don't get evaluated until landing on a spob. Once evaluated, bits are set, allowing the player to progress in the plot.
I noticed, however that the next missions wouldn't be available unless I left the spob and landed again. So, in summary:
1.) Complete mission #1 objectives 2.) Land on spob 3.) Mission #1 is evaluated and a bit is set 4.) Mission #2 is not avalable. 5.) Leave spob 6.) Land on spob 7.) Mission #2 is available
Am I correct in thinking that available missions are evaluated only when the player first lands and that any bit changes that take place while landed don't take effect until the player takes off again?
To head off suggested work arounds, the missions I have in mind require that the player's record be evaluated and afaik, that can only be done upon landing on a spob.
Any confirmation on my suspicions would be appreciated and help me avoid hours of trying to get it work (thinking it's my fault).
OH! If mburch reads/hears about this topic, would it be possible to get a sort of order of operations related to missions? For example, when do bits get evaluated? Upon landing? Upon jumping into new systems? Immediately? Etc. I think such info would help plug makers plan out complicated missions.

You're not the first to speak of this problem. My experience with it is that it really depends: for example, when I made Arpia, I had no problems with that whatsoever, whereas plug users had the same problem. Sometimes they had to leave the system. Or then sometimes the completion bit just didn't get set Weird So all I can tell you is that weird things happen sometimes, and don't worry ( be happy ) (not exactly helpful, but it's true to me)
Edit: sometimes it also happened to me while playing the normal storylines, and, yes, I did check, it wasn't the "Delay Cron". It was just some little bug I never understood.

Try doing something while you're still on the planet which will change some bits. Like accept a mission or buy an outfit or something which might get it to check availability of missions again. I think I've encountered this problem before too, but managed to work around it using something like this.
