probs with nxxx and visibility

All-

I'm having serious problems with getting a spob to appear in a second syst. As I understand it, a spob will only appear in a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th....) syst only if the first syst it appears in is not visible. Here's the setup I'm having problems with:

Mission #1: Available at any spob, it is auto aborting and the acccept field is as follows: b4999 n236 q20000; so bit 4999 is set, the player is moved to system #236 and they are immediately ejected into space.

System #236 is visible only when bit 4999 is set. Nav #1 == spob 235

System #133 is visible only when !b4999 is set. Nav #2 == spob 235

The problem is that, after accepting mission #1 and appearing in system #236, spob 235 is not visible. It can be selected, but can't be landed on. If I escape to the load screen and reload my pilot, I reappear above the planet I first accepted the mission from (because I haven't landed anywhere else yet). If I land and accept the mission again, I am again moved to system #236, but now spob 235 is visible!

Can anyone shed some light on what is going on? I have placed the plugin at (url="http://"http://phair.csh.rit.edu/~seant/EV/NxxxTestPlug.sitx")http://phair.csh.rit...xxTestPlug.sitx(/url) if anyone is interested in seeing what I have done. Any advice will be quite welcome.

Do you need to use the same spöb? COuldn't you possibly use another spöb wich would be a perfect duplicate of the first one?

Try using the same Nav# for both of them.

Need? No. Why waste resources if it is exactly the same spob? I suspect I'm hitting some undocumented limitation in the engine and may have to resort what you suggest, as cludgy as it is.

Tried it; didn't work.

I take it by a lack of feedback that no one can point out where I'm screwing up. I'll assume this is an engine bug unless someone else can make it work.

I think that you should not attempt to move at once in a system that has just been made to appear, especially if it contains a spöb that is in the system that just disappeared as well. The engine may not be able to load the spöb in its new system so fast, so it reacts the same way as if you had the same spöb in more than one present system. I usually recommand always trying to reuse the existing spöbs whe the systems change if the spöb doesn't (if only the description does, then a {b### "bla" "bli"} can be used) so as to avoid bugs and make possible that the spöb be used as a mission destination, but in this case it may be wise to use a different same-looking spöb, or move to a completely different system, or something.

If you could post a non-.sitx file, I could take a look. I can't decompress that file type.

Edit: Zacha sounds like he might be on the right track. Nova may not have an opportunity to fully evaluate visbits with that combination of operators.

If on a PC you indeed can't obtain the resource fork from it (7.5 doesn't not understand sitx and we know about 8...). If on a Mac, download the latest Stuffit expander. Either way, not a very friendly format indeed.

I've converted it to a zipped bin file and posted to my webspace. (url="http://"http://perso.wanadoo.fr/webpierre/NxxxTestPlug.zip")http://perso.wanadoo...xxxTestPlug.zip(/url)

Thanks, Zacha.

I have considered makeing a duplicate spob but the idea of the plug (spoiler) is to provide a sort of "Join the Military" string of missions. As part of your training you take part in combat simulations. You go to the mission computer and select a certain mission. Once accepted, the player is moved to a special "simulation" system that is populated with his targets and/or his squad. To exit the simulation, the player lands on a spob.

I'd hoped to just use the same spob for the exiting, since there will be several different "simulation systems" reflecting different difficulties (easy, medium, hard, unpossible) by having different interference, astroids, etc. Maybe I can still get it to work. I'll have to try some more experiments I just thought of....
