that would set the scanmask on all illegal outfits/weapons to zero. I'm thinking along the lines of something that would make them appear (to Fed ships) to be legal. What would I need to do to make that?

I don't mean something that will replace all the illegal hardware, just make it appear to be legal on Fed scanners. I get tired of getting shot at just because I'm flying a ship with pirate viper bays... They don't get you for flying a "pirate" ship or for having the pirate vipers, just for having the bays. What I want is something that would fool their scanners into thinking everything is normal.
Since there is no outfit that says "ignore scanmasks" (as a quick read of the outfit resource section of the Nova bible will reveal), there are only two ways to accomplish this.
1. Copy all oütf resources that have a non-zero scanmask into a blank plug and set all of their scanmask bits to zero.
--or--
2. Copy all gövt resources into a blank plug and set every governments scanmask to zero. This would have the added "benefit" of making all illegal cargo from missions be ignored as well.
OR as mrxak suggested, set it up so there are two copies of every illegal item, one of them with no scanmask, and have this legalizer outfit activate crons to swap them, and toggle availability of them. Uugh. In a TC situation, one could make two copies of govts that are fooled by these scan-proof ships, and two copies of all thier Interceptor dudes and ships, and have the appearon of the ships depend on wheather one has the outfit. Uugh. I think the second one is SLIGHTLY more graceful (esp if there arnt lots of ship variants for the fighters), but both of them are pretty clumsy. -Az

Isn't there some sort of jamming device that makes the target government think you're a good guy, even though you aren't? Or maybe that was a reinforcement inhibitor... Anyway, if you prevent them from thinking you are evil, they won't shoot you. (Did you know that Arourans shoot you for having EMP torpedoes?)

The Feds don't like you to have EMP torps either. There is the False ID, but you will still get scanned/fired upon. You can also use the Federation IFF Projector, but, as I remember, you get one in the Auroran thread (Thunderforge sideline). Unfortunately, that too is scannable and will get you in hot water if you are discovered with one.
