Thought Basin

I thought that an idea basin for plug developers (like me)would help make cool plugins with new ideas. The idea behind this topic is to post ways of making weapons, or cool things you can trick the Nova engine into doing. Basically, someplace to put ideas and hope that someone puts it in a plug. For example...

You could make an outfit that would sit in your cargo space rather than your weapon space; make it weigh nothing, but have it take away the required cargo space.

We've had topics like this before- the problem is that we developers are hesitant to post our cool ideas here. Right now, just about everybody is working on one or more TC's (right? It's been a bit since I hung out here!), so all of our cool ideas are being reserved for inclusion in our own projects. But more power to you.

I'll post one from SS, just for fun:

Space Sport Ships!
Basically, there is going to be a sport in SS kind of like space-rugby. Played out in the void. What you'll see is a single ship, whose' sprite looks like a group of standard ships tied together in a ring. This is animated so that you see a little version of the game being played. If you attack the ship, it'll launch fighters (all the constituent ships of the ring) at you, and destroy itself (with no explosion or anything), so that it looks like the everybody runs back to their ship and takes defensive action.

I'm not working on a TC. Actually, my free time is scarce so I've not made anything serious yet for Nova. But I have two ideas:
Make the weapons that come standard with any ship be unbuyable (easy: set max field to 0), weight less, cost much less (so actually you won't gain much by selling them) than the version of the weapon you can buy for all ships; therefore it will make sense to have a well designed fighter that it has very well integrated weapons, while not having an absurd load of free space when everything is sold or being able to be sold for more money than its price.
Second idea (for a TC mainly): make all outfits have two or more effects, especially cutting-edge stuff (such as multi-jump, powerful weapons, shield geneator) should have multiple drawbacks, some hidden, so as to have to player really make a choice about what to outfit his ship with.

I had the idea of being able to store weapons in your cargo bay and your weapons bay. But untill now I had no idea how to implememt it.

I'm working on at least three TC's with another on the wating list. Don't expect any of them exept the Micro TC (See topic "New TC!") to be out any time soon because I work alone.

Cpt. Phillips, what exactly are you trying to achieve that you dont know how to implement? I could prolly help with implementing that - it doesnt sound too horribly hard.

I would like to make it possible (In the EVO engine only) to have a weapon that can draw ammo from two sources. For instance, a rocket launcher that can launch rockets from the weapons bay and the cargo bay.
