tutorials that beginners need (like me)

This is a list of tutorials that would be useful for beginners, like me.

Ship Modelling Tutorial (strata, lightwave, etc, etc), dealing specifically with ships, including examples (mac and pc)

Planet Pict Tutorial (mac and pc)

Ship Texture Tutorial (mac and pc)

Ship Rendering tutorial (mac and pc)

Ship Insertion Into Plug tutorial (mac and pc, okay from now on just assume mac and pc. Especially pc, for two reasons. one, there is a scarcity of pc help and that cuts down on plugs, and two i have a pc and i am human and want help)

Example Tutorials on:
-using every resource, and what it means (bible explains what they are, but not what that means), including pict, shan, spin, spob, syst, intf, govt, etc, etc, etc.
-Above ship stuff
-Oufit manufacture (inc pictures)
-weapon manufacture (inc all pict, etc)
-basically, if possible a full tutorial on the making of a TC. I understand some parts of the process, but not close to all of it and others even less than me, probably. This is the biggest hurdle in TC manufacture, not understanding what to do because (despite all of the useful stuff), not everything is said. Spell out the basics so that we can pick up the advanced stuff. Just one cohesive document, perhaps called the development encyclopedia or something.

A full index, in one place of all of the useful guides out there.

One another note, you know what would be extremely useful? I heard of a EV classic program that let you drag and drop systems and such for xy coords. That would save everyone who used that program literally weeks, if not months.

So a universe building tutorial (syst and spob, dude and pers)

A mission string creation example tutorial

A better bit explanation for EVNEW (everything seems marked bits 1-64...)

A pc-specific 'how to make a ship from start to finish'. If you want to write this, assume that all readers (expecially me) are complete morons and give very complete steps. My IQ is 160 but my EVNIQ is more like 1.6, somewhere around birth defect rabbit.

A mask, light and glow tutorial

A string use guide (all uses, examples).

I'm out for now, but I will probably be making a lot of 'edited by' soon.

If you can wait until mid-July of this year, my guide will have comprehensive tutorials for all of those items.

(url="http://"http://www.zhouj.net/days/")Days of Glory(/url), Upcoming TC for EV: Nova

You are my new favourite guy. Until then, I'll simply complete my universe and such (400 spobs, 400 syst and still going strong! Also outfit names, weapon names, ship names to do for mid july). Will there be any explanations for pc?

This is more useful than a plug because it allows people to make good plugs without the trial and error that everyone experiences. You will contribute to many plugs!

To answer one of your problems, making ships, feel free to have a bash at it without specific instructions and then come here for more specific help when you get stuck or frustrated. We're only too glad to help out people, because we were all crap at it to begin with.

With regard to the different resources in nova plugs, mostly it's intuitive and with the specifically hard bits just come here, search, and if that doesn't help just ask away.

Good luck with whatever your plug is...

"How can I make it go faster?" -Me-

Remember PC plug ceveloppment is very recent. Even after the release of PC Nova it was thought plug deving would continue to be done only one Macs. Only very recently aprosenf (my the Gods bless him for eternity) came with a PC plug editor, EVNEW, and decided to open beta test it (state in which it still is).

Duly noted. EVNEW is an excellent program, hear that aprosenf? However, what I need is a couple of things before I can even get asking questions. I appreciate all of your willingness to help out, that is very good of you, but I am right now in the gap where I understand the nova bible but very little else. the nova bible, while useful, is not complete enough for you to make a proper plug after reading only it, especially TCs. EVNEW, while an excellent program (no need of novatools!), has a couple of problems, notably lack of documentation. I am doing some things by trial and error because of this. What is up with the bit interface? There are so many boxes, all labeled 1-64 or such and the same boxes for everything, weaps, everything, the same boxes. Are they the same bits, or simply labeled the same and resourced differently? It be a mystery. yarr. i love EVNEW.

PS: Programs that would save months of TC time

1. A map drag and click interface for placing and naming systems. heard EVC had this? This would save MONTHS of very... painful work.
2. A mod to EVNEW (or mission control, etc) that would allow one to open many resources at once to edit them in a single go, like flags. EG: open spob 128-411, click 'can land here'. Saves hours alone, and there are dozens of uses that it could have.
3. A multiple selection for EVNEW, where let's say select 50 resources at once (shift click, control click), copy and paste. That would save hours, and allow for #2. Also a shortcut for creating a new resource (ctrl n makes a new plug). That would save days in the long run.
4. A bit tracker, to see which bits are used and for what, which are free.
5. A printable SHORT list of all of the numbers used for every resource. It is annoying to have to remember that the Crucifix (personal TC ship name) is id number 164034523769, and have to go and check.
6. A small program that will take a movie file and turn it into a grid frame file. PC has this not, and photoshop takes a while in some cases.
7. did I mention a GUI map editor? That would make my day.
