does anybody have, or know where to get, the original EVO ship models in a form strata vision can read? I need them for strata vision because it is the only program I have and know how to use.
------------------
I started converting them to dfx a while ago and got most of them done. However I think I have since deleted them. I'll re-do them - it only takes about a minute a file.
I'll post a download link once Im done - might take a few weeks as I dont have an internet connection to my own computer

If you choose "Open As..." (I assume you have that option, becasue isn't StrataVision a Strata program?), you will see a (rather long, if it's anything like Strata 3.0.2) list of formats it can open.
Ewan/Jules: How did you get the original models at all?

I checked and strata vision does read DXF files. Its strata vision 4.0.

You know, for those who are too anxious to wait a few weeks, it would be nice if you told us what you were using to convert them...unless it was Infini-D.

Ditto.

I have Strata, Infini-D 4.5, Cinema 4D and quite a few other programs. However, for this I will be using Infini-D
I would pre-convert them to .s3d but Im not sure whether Strata Vision can read the newer file formats - I know 3.0.2 can open many of the new formats :frown:

Yes, but not Infini-D. I've tried it.
Anyhow, if you're using Infini-D, then I guess I'm stuck waiting. I used to have a copy, but it disappeared. I seriously think it deleted itself (well, it keeps happening with IRCle...). Anyhow, specular.com is no more, and searches on Google have been unproductive.

by the time I got hooked on EV Infini-D was no more. I had hoped strata would read Infini-D files, but it doesn't.

If I could have the models for all the human renegade ships and the freight courier, that would tide me over till the rest were done. I need them for illustrations for a story. or even better I can animate them and make a movie. I've already made a movie using a ufo model I made.
Ok, I finally got round to getting it all done (sorry, buy Ive been busy recently). You can find them (url="http://"http://el3.northernswamp.com/downloads/")here(/url). I decided to change the format to 3dmf since its more widely used. It also includes colours (dont know about texture maps though...) so it will give you colouring guides for re-texturing
All the files that came with the EVO 3D Designs have been converted, thats ships, weapons and outfits. When you open the files, the objects are grouped and not orientated correctly, but thats easy to fix by rotating and ungrouping. They are also very small (compared to the grid) so you might want to scale them up before editing.
Should I put this on the EVO add ons page?
Hope they are of use ewan
Perfect. Now I can see them in cinema 4d. Thanks.

Ok, just an update. Ive found out that some of the files wont open in Strata... They say they contains bad data! Ive found a way around this so bare with me while I do some conversions.
Also some look very polygonated. Now, on some ships this doesnt matter (for example Voinians due to the angular nature of the ships. However, on some this looks really bad (see the UE Fighter or the Crescent fighter). I will be re-doing these too. My question is this: which would you like to see done again? Its a very simple process and wont take too long. Once Ive done the ships which wont open and re-done some of the more polygonated ships I will post a fixer for those who have already downloaded and an updated version of the original so all future downloads wont require teh fix...
Sorry for the inconvenience, I didnt test the ships as I exported them (done at 3am ). If theres anything Im missing, please let me know in this topic!
Thank you Jules. If i could, i would bulid you a shrine! But sadly i can't. But anyway, THANKS! Now i wonder where those EV graphics went to...

Matt lost them They werent complex anyway so they wouldnt be hard to re-create on your own better ones...
So far I have the Scoutships converted for use. Im having a bit of trouble getting the Lazira working - its not being nice to me Others should be following shortly!

Crescent Warship, please. That has always been my favorite.
Update: thanks to Divals, I can open the files without hassle! I wonder if they went into enough detail to do the sides and the front and the back, or just cheated and only did the top...
