The great thing about this service is that, if people use it, hey, it's useful to the community, and that's what I'm going for. If no one needs it, that just means that plugins won't be getting lost and that I won't have to do anything. Its a win-win situation.

Man, oh man, I have to wonder EVula, is your entire server (or should I say Lair) like a big space of vacuum, to try to fill up a void with files that could be in range of terabytes would be futile. I think that in the future, you could end up swallowing the entire AmbrosiaSW company whole, as if backing up their entire company in your space, hehe.

Fortunately, I have never lost any code. The one time my HD flat-out died, I had backed up the day before. But you have to understand, I backup so much because losing even 100 lines of code would be devestating - it is almost irreplaceable. I have lost websites and fonts and such because I am nowhere near as careful about them. My current problem is how to backup my applications folder because I don't have a big enough second drive

Jeff, that raises another question... EVula, exactly how much space do you have on this backup server of yours? I know some people have tons of files, taking well over an entire gig of space of their own HD's, and obviously, backing up the site very often will quickly eat up CDs. You mentioned that their would be a 500 megabyte limit on server space, but there is no apparent restriction on actually used space...
Perhaps using a CD-RW for each client, and constantly updating their CD, keeping them to a 750 MB limit... Of course, that would scarcely be different from developers doing it themselves at home.
In all, this is a great idea, and I could have used it when I was really actively developing (redesigning models 3 times from scratch would kind of kill a project...) without an easy means of backup, but even now, this would only seem useful for keeping the essential files, as well as old betas (a very good idea... ;)).

The amount of space on the server isn't really an issue. The files that are being backed up stay on the server for any more than 4 days (if they are uploaded between Saturday and Wednesday) at a time. Every time I backup the server, I delete all the files from it. This frees up that space and secures it from being lost on the web server (since I don't manage that, I can't actually guarantee anything with it).
As for the amount of space available to me, evula.net has a gig of space dedicated to it; that gig is shared between (url="http://"http://backup.evula.net/")backup.evula.net,(/url) (url="http://"http://blog.evula.net/")blog.evula.net,(/url) and all the rest of the sites (url="http://"http://www.evula.net/network.html")hosted(/url) on (url="http://"http://www.evula.net/")evula.net.(/url)
So I guess backing up my 10 gigs of crap isn't an option, eh?
