I'm trying to get myself into a fixed schedule on doing things; Wednesday and Saturday are the days I've noted as the days I'll work on stuff for the Empire (blog account processing, backup stuff, etc). Really, all I have to do is start the download before I go eat dinner and I'll be done by the time I get back.

The best solution I have found so far is to use Deja Vu with an external firewire HD. Currrently, I have my 10 GB development folder backed up every night at 3:00 AM. So far, it has worked beautifully.

Good point. Although, technically, the only things that need compression are the files with resource forks... while I've been stressing backing up regular documents and model files, which don't use resource forks (usually), I should add a note about that.

What I meant was having a full script to connect to the ftp server, download them, delete them, and then even compress them, or whatever has to be done before burning. You could even write them to a disk image with a shell script, then its one click to burn and you're done.

Hmmmm Is data-loss a large problem for people here? I havnt had any data-loss situations i like 5 years except for a couple terminally stupid things that I deserve to lose data for (accidental deletion)

My solution is Apple's Backup tool, and a duplicate internal drive.
For my renderfarm, I use a RAID (level 5) triple striped and mirrored SCSI2 setup, using Silicon Graphics' XLV (eXtended Logical Volume) and XFS (eXtended File System) across a fibre-based network.
Your mileage may vary.
