Well you could make a cron or misn to give you cargo when you blow it up.

But other than that ur outa luck.

Hey, that's no way to behave. Especially since he was trying to help. Calm down.

Crons are powerful but not that powerful. You could 'board' the 'roid' to get the minerals, but that defeats the purpose of the asteroid scoop.

You have a cube AND a G5? Holy crap, send me one of them. Hell, I'll take the cube... 🙂

Hee hee hee. The G5's awesomely powerful, but the cube is oh, so purty.
If I fiddle around, I can make a mission which gives me asteroid miners who mine, correct? That could be useful, I could make a Miner's guild, so you only get the mission if you're a member, hmm, I wonder...

You can make ships appear which mine asteroids, but you cannot make escorts who will mine asteroids, or ships which will mine then give you what they've collected.

UE_Research & Development: Even if a ship has those cloaking flags set, it needs a cloak outfit before it can actually cloak.

Part of this is that the nature of the cloak (Disables on damage, visible on radar, drops shields) is defined by the outfit, and carries to the ship. You can test this yourself. Give a Wraith a different cloaking device; in stock Nova, they use one that's visible on radar, doesn't drop the shields and doesn't disable upon being damaged. Chage the Wraith Cloak outfit so that it doesn't appear on radar, does drop shields and does disable on damage. You should notice a difference.

Katana: I think I've seen this behavior...

In the stock scenario, there are a series of ships with names like "Shuttle; economy at work," starting at RID 391. These ships ferry between two spöbs in a system, going from one to the next nearest object; even things the player can't lad at (From Pyro I to Nesre Secundus IV, as an example).

These ships do have "Scoop Asteroid Bits" flagged, but not "Shoots Röids." The presence of asteroids is unimportant.

When playing around with this I noticed that if you gave these shuttles Asteroid Scoops among their outfits, whenever an asteroid dropped minerals, these shuttles would stop ferrying and come running to scoop up the bits. Without an asteroid scoop, they didn't do this.

Huh. That is interesting. I'd heard that if ships are set to mine röids, and there were none in the system, the ships would exhibit the behavior you described. But finding this holds some interesting possibilities in itself...

It does make sense as you think about it - if there is nothing to mine, or there is no means of mining, the ships would have nothing to do but fly around from spöb to spöb. As soon as you give them a means to collect asteroids, they will scoop any bits once you (or anyone else) destroys the asteroid, and then return to the previous behavior.

This is easy to test, but I can't fire up the game at the moment: if you disable and board an asteroid miner who has been scooping, does its hold contents include what it scooped up? If so, is this true only for standard commodities (e.g. metal), or also for junks?

Hey, watch it. There is no reason to be calling any one any such thing.

By the way, your question read:

Quote

Well, to further the question: if your escort has the scoops asteroids flag set, and you blow a 'roid, does it scoop the debris and add it to your cargo if the escort flies over it?

Maybe you haven't noticed, but I answered the second half of your question.
