Orthographic renders in Lightwave 7.5?

Hey guys, is it possible to render orthographically (no perspective) in Lightwave? I'm trying to match the sprites that someone else rendered in Strata, and they rendered with no perspective whatsoever. How can I do this in Lightwave?

How can you have no perspective and still see the thing? That makes no sense to me.

everywhere a slice slice.

It doesn't actually happen in nature.

I know that Softimage can render orthographically, I was wondering if Lightwave has the same capability.

I'm confused.

I know what he wants to do, but i dont know a way to technically describe it.
In anycase, he wants to make flat sprites. I CANNOT IMAGINE why he would want to make such things.

You can achieve the same effect by placing your camera very far from the object and zooming in on it; there is no built in support however. (url="http://"http://www.flay.com")www.flay.com(/url) I believe has a plugin that automates this process, but nothing ads true ortho support like Max and Maya have. If you do need true ortho support, then I assume it is for engineering or drafting, in which case, Autodesk Inventor or Autocad would be better products (or my peronal favorite, Solid Works). They are much more precise of a modeler. Alias's Studio Tools is also a good product that falls between animation software (like Lightwave) and CAD software. Anyway, good luck, and if you cant get it to work, I believe blender might have an ortho renderer, so you could always do it that way.

You mean like EVC/O sprites?

No those are done from a top-down perspective , what he wants is NO perspective. This would result in a line or a dot ?

It's very difficult to describe. An orthographic view by definition, does not have perspective, just as if you were looking at a side or top view in the modeling window. Certain software packages (namely Softimage), give you the ability to make a render from any angle (as if you would normally), except it will be without perspective. It's really hard to describe in words. Like you know how two parallel lines will appear to converge to a single point in a perspective view, in an orthographic view, the lines will remain parallel no matter what angle you view it from. Hmm... I already did what jdh545 suggested, and zoomed way in and moved the camera way out, but not quite far enough. Okay... I'll just have to move farther away.

In regular perspective projections, for a point at (x, y, z), the point it's drawn on your screen is (x/z, y/z), translated to the screen center, and then maybe multiplied by a constant factor to zoom in or out. In an orthographic projection, the point (x, y, z) is simply drawn at (x, y) (and also translated and/or scaled by a fixed amount). If you draw a line that goes straight into or out of the screen, you'll see it as a diagonal line pointing towards the center of the screen in a perspective projection. In an orthographic projection, it will appear as a point.

Ah, flat. Gotcha.

Ah, I get it now. Thanks Aprosenf. 🙂

Bryce can do it really easily... if you have any version of Bryce, just import that file and render it there using the "Top View" camera angle... or left/right view, or bottom view, or whatever. Basically anything but "Camera View" or "Director's View" is orthographic.
