I've been playing around with ionizing weapons that have a large blast radius, (Think: EMP Torpedoes) and I've come across something.
The only ship to get ionized is the ship that is actually hit.
It could be sitting in a tightly packed fleet, or in the middle of a swarm of fighters. Nobody else gets any ionization whatsoever.
It seems as if ionization doesn't get carried on the blast radius the way that energy and mass damage does.
Anybody else notice this?
------------------ "Trust me, this'll work..." - Me. "WARPCORE BREACH IN 10 SECONDS." - Computer. "... Of course, I could be wrong..." - Me.
Yeah, I've noticed that happening.
As far as I'm aware, blast radius only applies to damage, not secondary weapon effects. If you really need a multi-ship ionising weapon, you'll have to mess about with submunitions I suppose.

Multi-ship ionization would make the desc of the EMPTorp and the Pirate Carriers true. I find it strange that it doesn't. The Pirate Carrier says that it has them to blast through blockades. The EMPTorp, just well, should ionize.
Unless it would require an engine change, because submunitions are unpleasant aand limit the number of missiles in system.

Krypt-tokh6, this is exactly why I thought it was a bug.
I don't think it would be a major change to have ionizing effects treated the way energy and mass damage effects are.
Of course, I could be wrong...
It is now over two months since anyone posted in this topic, version 1.0.7. is now out, and this bug is still here.
I know that I grave-digging isn't exactly polite, but I am trying to bring some attention to this bug. If you think I'm going about it in the wrong way, let me know how I should do it.
I hear ya. I have to say, i think alot of bugs get lost in the noise. I have posted on the main board about a beam bug that makes this bug look like a dust mite*, and so far i have recieved no confirmaation that the powers that be are looking into it. There must be a better way to report bugs! -Az

Email Matt? Hope to high heaven Matt makes one of his occasional visits to the EVDC?

Asterax2, the one where beam weapons do exponentially stacking damage? I think I saw that topic today. That is a serious bug, and people are suggesting "Band-aid's," and exploits of it.
Maybe we can get some attention directed at them. If there's enough reason (enough bugs), it could warrent a version 1.0.8 to fix them. It may be prudent to start compiling a bug list.
You want bugs? How about this?
Government ship colors don't seem to work the way they are described in the Bible, or as NovaTools and MissionComputer expect them to work. I suppose it could be that there is an undocumented way to match pers and govt colors, but I haven't found the pattern if there is one.
I've been reporting on my investigations on this over (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4803")here(/url) at the ev-nova.net forums; I wanted to investigate a couple more theories before springing this issue on people in "Dev Corner." I'm not gonna be able to do much for the next few days, though, and this thread seems to be drifting towards an engine bug list... so here ya go!

Read it today? If you agree on it's seriousness, why didnt you post a reply? I'm afraid that topic is going to slide off the bottom of the front page, without the devteam noticing it. I cant be the one bumping my own topic until the appropriate people read it. -Az
(and thier suggesting exploits of it is nothing new - they've been doing that forever - the difference is that now they know that what they suggest is an exploit (like "Load a mod-sb up with Thead's and you can take down anything!")) ------------------ It is here. That colour problem's been around for a while. It initially showed up when applying AAC's Paint Station Prime plugin paints to Vell-os ships. It would instead provide the inverse colour to what was expected. Turns out, it has something to do with transparencies in the ship sprites. Hence, if you want that blueish colour you specified in your pic, try to find the hex value of that yellowish colour and you'll get the blueish colour. Yes, I know it's annoying. As for that geometric beam progression thing, does that apply to Ion Cannons as well? Because those are my favorite non-polaris weapons... I hope it's not just because of this silly bug...

Read my post here: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum26&topic;=015564")http://www.AmbrosiaS...26&topic=015564(/url) In otherwords, i do not think it effects ion cannons. It does effect CPL's and THeads, and a variant of it can come into play with Winter Tempests and another non-tempest beam weapons. -Az

Well, I think I have noticed that effect to an extent with CPLs, but I think it only happens when you have a VERY direct hit and keep it there for a while. If you tap the beam, nothing like that will happen, I bet. I bet the problem with the reload is that it stacks up unexpectedly (while one beam is firing, another stacks on, then another with the reloads and such which would explain your results). Prolonged use is what I suspect is causing this. If, however, you don't have a very good bead on your target, it will take a bit longer to kill 'em. I've noticed this in my raven when dominating planets. Sometimes it seems to take more to kill some ships than others of the same kind. Try it out in more varied circumstances.
Asterax2, I just checked again on your topic on the Nova Board... From Slagblah's post, it looks like they're ready to fix it in the next version.
Congratulations... it seems the powers that be have heard you after all.
Eugene, are you, by any chance, related to a Mr. James Chin?
Originally posted by Katana: **Eugene, are you, by any chance, related to a Mr. James Chin?
Yes. He's my older brother.
Now, before you go "There are two of you?!", let me just say... There's three of us. I also have a younger brother.
And back to bugs...
I first noticed this a while ago, but it slipped my mind until now. While testing out a weapon with submunitions, I had checked the "Subs Fail when Shot Expires" flag. I was testing out a mine-like weapon, and I wanted it to just dissapear if nobody hit it within it's lifespan.
Submunitions still went off. That's not supposed to happen, and I was wondering if it was a bug. I thought about posting about it, but fell victim to the combination of old lurker habbits, and that James was on NationStates.net; by the time he got off I must have forgotten.
When I thought of it, I went and checked it under 1.0.7. It's still there.
Yup, theres another one. I have confirmed your submunition bug. Anyone know if theres a better way to report bugs? -Az
