so heres the deal, Im making ship graphics for Nova. I have my 1 second movie of the ship spinning, I put it into movie to sprite, and everything pops out like normal. I open up resedit and make a PICT resource, and past the ship and mask into it (ship as resource 128, mask as 129) and then I make a Shän resource. I save it all, and i drag it into EnRLE and click "okay" when it gives me options to muck around with the settings. now, a number of things have happened, depending on how I alter the settings, unfortunatly none of the things that happen result with me happy, with my RleD file. 1: the program quits automaticaly, as soon as I start the procedure 2: the program freezes with a white screen, and does nothing. 3: it apears as if its working, giving me the 2/3 black screen, but then, it does not start converting the sprites 4: I get a text box saying an error of type -50 occured, and the program quits.
I havent done this in a while, so i may have forgoten a step, or something, if somone could help me out it would be great.

I've never been crazy enough to try it, but it could be that you're telling it to do the impossible. Did you uncheck "check spïns for PICTS"?
Or maybe it doesn't like shäns. I've always used spïns. Perhaps it's not perfect, and it gets mucked up with all that extra crap in there. I don't know, because as I said, I've always used spïns.
I've never had problems, so I'm just guessing.

well, Ive done it before, but that was a LONG time ago, and since then I may have forgotten some steps. However, I did find one problem, I didnt input the size of the sprits or anything in the shän resource, so, now I get the 2/3 black screen where it is supposed to show the ships, and it shows the progress, but it doesnt show the actual ships, and the output file has an RLED resource, but it is blank... and it only sometimes asks me to save... damn it!

Try using a spïn and see what happens.

When you put together the shän in Resedit, does it show up everything properly there? If it doesn't work from the pict before you convert it, it won't work after you convert it.
I find that certain settings in EnRLE are more reliable then others.
My usual settings are: RleD's and Rle8's Scan shäns for PICTs (All) And output files set to One file per rle type.
I find the default output setting of one file per spin/shan does not seem to always work.

EnRLE is just horribly unstable for some people. Make sure it works in ResEdit/Novatools with picts first. Like Orca, I've had trouble with shans, spins seem better. Don't use the one file per sprite option- I've had horrible luck with it. Last, sometimes you just have to do it a few times. For me, it's mostly a matter of luck to get it to work (which is why it has taken so long to get SS's graphics done, as Orca may be able to attest!)

Hmm, Masamune, you've managed to make it not put all the sprites into seperate files? I cant turn that off. Other than that, though, its worked fine on my OS8.6 based ****box, except derleing a few poorly encoded RLEs that used nonstandard OPcodes (Aprosenf will remember me sending him these strange RLEs when EVNEW choked on them too. EVNEW works with em now though) -Az

Hmm... that reminds me. I use it with OSX, but it seems to be more stable if you boot straight into Classic (like resedit in general!).

Actually, I've never successfully gotten the "one file per type" to work either. What the hell is up with this? I mean, everyone has different responses with the same program! I don't know how easy it is to make a stable rle encrypter, but R&R; sure didn't do too good of a job. Not that I'm griping—I don't really understand rle encryption (though some person making some Cocoa program helped me understand a little. Try searching through the topics for "NovaLord" or "NovaGod"), so I have no idea how much work they put into it. But, like all programs (except really simple ones), it has bugs. I just wish they would actually release a version besides 1.0.0

thanks guys, I did get it working eventualy. Turns out, I was being a dumbass... For the Shan, I was typing 36 for base frames rather than 1, go figure, I guess Im just too used to writing the number 36....
