How would I go about...

...Making a racing mission (a real racing mission, not the kind in PlugPackV15)? I'm trying to have the player wind through the system and reach a certain planet before the opponent does.

The Nova engine isn't exactly geared towards this type of 'race' like mission, but some things have been attempted and discussed in this topic:

OK, I think I've figured out a simple straight-line race from one planet to another. Give the opponent a govt and then give the destination an enemy govt. Set the opponent to destroy enemy stellars, then give it an invisible planet-destroying weapon with zero range. If the opponent can destroy the planet, it instantly regenerates, the mission fails, and you lose the race.

With that in mind, is there a way to have the course wind through the system?

You could do what you've suggested, but do it with a few different spobs around the system, as checkpoints, so you have to land on that one before the other person destroys it, and then go onto the next one. Thats the only way I can think how youd be able to do it, I know it's not ideal, because you'd have to land and it would break up the race.

AI question:

If an misn special ship (instructed to destroy a hostile planet that is directly above it) were surrounded by deadly stellars in a way that the only safe way to go is to the left, would the ship go up or left?

If this works, deadly stellars could be used to create a closed race course. 🙂

I'd imagine it would go up, or at the very least turn to face the planet and fire it's weapon.

A race with deadly stellars as the edge of the track would still be pretty short. You can only have so many planets in a system.

By the way, supposadly on the PC the destroy enemy stellars AI behavior causes a crash.
