I'm new to creating plug-ins, and I ould like to start small, something simple, such as making the enormous blaster turret available for purches, how would I go about this?

Well the best place to start is to find out what Computer type you are using. PC's and Mac don't use the same editing tools.
For Mac there are several to choose from; (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")Mission Computer(/url) (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")w00tware(/url) (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/products/evone/")Arios Software(/url)
PC however has but one editor; (url="http://"http://www.aznt.com/EVN/EVNEW/")EVNEW(/url)
You should also pick up some of the guide such as the bible from; (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/addons.html")Ambrosia(/url)
Also it will be helpful to open some of the existing files to start to learn how things work. There is plenty of help here as always.

Set the TechLevel to 1, and check for any required bits, then unset them if they exist.. I never took that much of a look at the stock Nova scenario, unlike the first two games, so I don't know if there's any require bits necessary. Also check for ncb's necessary, and clear the field.
Oh, and you'll need an editor. You're probably stuck with Windows, so get EVNEW (link in my signature). If not, get (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/products/evone/")EVONE(/url), (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/mc.php")MissionComputer(/url), and (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/")NovaTools(/url).
Read through the Nova Bible in your Documentation folder. Pretty soon, you'll know what the hell I'm talking about.
Or someone could explain it to you, but I like learning first-hand better.
Anyways, welcome to the EVDC! Be happy that you are one of the few people who posted on the right board!
EDIT: Fixed w00tware link.

Have you read the relevant sections of the bible? That would be a good start. Do you have a plugin editing program? That would also be a good start. On windows, you must use EVNEW (an excellent program). On mac, you might choose Mission Computer, EVONE, or W00tware Novatools/resedit. I personally like novatools the best, but its a matter of personal taste. After that, make a new plugin (on the mac if you are using resedit/novatools, be sure to give it the proper type and creator codes (Npif and Nova respectively, with two dots over the i, o, and a)). To modify resources, copy them from the datafiles into your new plugin. To make new ones, just make new ones, but ake sure your new resources dont have the same ID as resources of the same type in the datafiles unless you are trying to replace them. Good luck. If you try to do something, and cant get it to work even after looking at the relevant section of the bible, search these boards, and if you still find nothing, go ahead and ask. With regards to your spesific goal, i dont think there is an outfit resource for the enormous blaster, so you would need to make that. And secondly, there is a bug in the enormous blaster as far as i know, so planets cannot use it and it might not work for players' ships either. The guidance type should be turreted unguided, but it is set to freefall bomb, if i recall correctly. Check the datafiles to confirm this first. -Az

ResEdit is a resource-editing program, available from (url="http://"http://www.resexcellence.com")http://www.resexcellence.com(/url) and required for use of NovaTools. All you need to do is get ResEdit and open it once (so it creates a prefs file) then follow the instructions in the NovaTools readme to install the templates in that prefs file. It's not as scary as it sounds - experiment.

And ä to get ä, and ñ to get ñ, and å for å, and à for à and â for â.
The only one that matters, really, is uml, but why not show you all of them while I'm at it?
thank you I'm off.
