Don't kill me. I used search about 3 times.
I was wondering if it was possible to edit an existing Nova sprite then spit it out as a new picture or new something. For example changing the color of the outf pict of the CPL or adding a fat gun on the Dragon. This may not make much sense, but I can't really think of another way to explain. Using a PC, have ENEW, could get Strata if needed.

Well Outf. picts are easy because Copy / Paste works with those to photoshop at least. as far as ship sprites go I think you'd actually have to export the sprites to a different graphic program. either a 3d modeler of a photoshop variant depending on your skill level.

generally if you wanted to do something complex, you would have to create a new model, and then texture it as faithfully as possible. Or you could devote you life to editing a single sprite...take your choice.

Now thats what I call a sure sign of having far too much time on your hands. although none the less it is very cool.
Just to clarify... you can't export the sprites to a 3D modeller to edit them. The best you can do is to do the same as AAC and edit each frame after extracting the sprite using DeRLE.

I would suggest you to take the medium blaster from the mod. Starbridge, they are easy to take alone because they are on the edge of the wings. In Photoshop take the medium blaster from one Starbridge frame then put it at the right point (in a different layer, better for experimenting) on the ship you want to add a med blaster at the same frame. save your work as a Photoshop doc (with the layers separated so that you can move the blasters later) and as a pict that you put in the plug, play Nova with your ship, if the blaster does not seem to go well (it seems to move a bit from the place you've put it on, for instance), go back to photoshop, open your photoshop doc and move the blasters accordingly, repeat until you get a near perfect result. It's more of tinkering than real designing, but it should work.
Personally I prefer changing the color of some parts of the ships to have different-looking ships, it's easy in photoshop: just select in one frame the part of the ship you want to modify the color of, make your change using a menu item that allows you to do color, luminosity or saturation(?) changes, change the color, save the settings of the change (very important, this way the color won't change when your ship will rotate), apply it too to the part of which you wish to change the color of in every frame, and export the result to your plug (depends on the editing program).
If you don't have Photoshop, I'm sorry, I can't do anything for you One last thing: do not try to take a sprite to add that you rotate to fit to all the frames, 2D rotation won't look right at all.

Well, he is on Windows, so w00tware doesn't work. I needed to use it, too, becasue I really want to put downloaded outfit graphics into my plugin, but I can't without that tool.

The gun thing was only an example. But thanks for the help anyway guys! (and gals if any of you are girls) I have now made a couple outfit picts and am too lazy to edit any sprites for ships at the moment. I will, just probably not now.
Very nice. However, it is still in my opinion a very inneficient way of doing things, and I'm sure many others will agree with me. I would post some of my own graphics, redone from other games, only I don't have hosting. Someday I'll do something about that, but not right now, especially because I don't have many very nicely textured graphics, but quite a few sprites that look nice in game. Meh...

Yes, it is unrealistic, but keep in mind that any ship capable of carrying multiple other ships would have to be enormous, and the carried ship would end up being 8 pixels at most, considering that capital ships have a huge weapon capacity, a a lot of space devoted to those thousands of crew's needs, and a decent amount of cargo space. Unless you made one ship used for launching purposes only, where the ship had no crew and just enough space for a fighter bay, which it had. Actually, that would be pretty cool.
Of course, you could always go with fighters as they are now, and make an immense ship to carry 'em. I might have been dreaming (yes, I do dream things like this), but I think I remember seeing a mention in a chat transcript of there being an 800 pixel long ship in SS. Or maybe someone was joking. I don't remember well. But there might well be one—I'm fairly sure Charlie/Masamune is trying to get it as close as possible to real life proportions and such—Jupiter will be so f***ing enormous it probably won't even fit on a1024x768 screen. I don't want to think about the Sun.
Imagine playing with that 4 pixel long viper and that immense Auroran Carrier...Or multiply them by 8, get a 32x32 viper, and for the Carrier, get...Ugonda*! Of course, you'd also get -30 FPS...
*Yes, Ugonda! It's so incredibly, indescribably massive I had to make up a word for it!

Oops, posted on the wrong topic. I was reading this one and 'Horrible Size EV Sprites' simultaneously. Sorry about that mix-up.
