I'm new to making plugs so don't scold me. Anyway, I made a new ship for a new govt and it keeps attacking me. I made several other ships for this govt and they just leave me alone. It's just this one type of ship and it gets really annoying, especially since its weapons don't even hit, which is another one of my concerns. I've made a couple other weapons and they don't seem to have any problems like not hitting.
Can anyone help?

It seems like you have issues with some of your flags. I'm not an expert on the subject, but it seems you have at least the 0x0040 (never attacks player) flag on, as well as possibly the 0x0001 (xenophobic) flag set. It might be a problem with the AI types at which you set your ships; warships and interceptors will be more inclined to attack than freighters.

About the not hitting: It's probably a graphics or flags problem. One of the following is possible (these are just what I can come up with off the top of my head): It is set to detonate at end of cycle It is set to detonate near the ship rather than hit it directly The masks are screwed up (ignore if spin refers to rle's) It has an invisible weapon that's getting you (extremely doubtful)

Don't forget blast radius. It needs to be bigger than the proximity radius.

Requiem: You seem to have a sizable number of odd things going on. If you want, you can email me your plug and I can take a look at it (it will be a good exercize for me too cause I havnt looked at govts much). azratax@aznt.com -Az

Hi everyone: I have a problem of my own. (sorry for using your post, Requiem)
I've made plugins before for the original EV, but I can't figure out what the "Ammo Type" means. I looked in the bible, but it didn't say anything useful. There seems to be no pattern about what number to enter and what annunition it referrs to. If anyone could help me, it would appreciate it.
Thanks.
By the way, I'm using EVNEW (the greatest thing in existance).
------------------ One by one the penguins come and steal my sanity...
Ammotype is the index number of the weapon that the weapon draws ammo from, or the ID of the ship that a fighter bay launches. Thus, for example, the Hail and Storm chainguns: Outfits: Hail chaingun (169) Modtype1: 1 (weapon), Modval1: 155 Chaingun Ammo (170) Modtype1: 3 (ammo), Modval1: 155 Storm chaingun (215) Modtype1: 1 (weapon), Modval1: 161 So far, this makes sense, right?
Weapons: Hail chaingun (155) Ammotype: 27 Storm chaingun (161) Ammotype: 27 Why 27? Ammotype uses the index number, while most everything else uses the ID#. The index number and ID number mean the same thing, only the latter starts at 128, while the former starts at 0. (Index #s are what are used internally by EVN, supposadly). So, to get the Index number to put into the ammo type, we take the ID of the weapon we want to use ammo from, and subtract 128. Since we want the Hail Chaingun (155) to use it's own ammo, we set it's Ammotype field to (155-128=27). Since the Storm chaingun should use hail chaingun ammo, we set it's ammotype to 27 as well.
Now, note that there is no reason why the developers couldnt have given Chaingun Ammo a Modval1 of 161 so it pointed to the Storm Chaingun instead of the Hail Chaingun, and given the two chainguns an ammotype of (161-128=33).
And if anyone thinks this is complicated, it is.
Fighter bays are much friendlier: The ammotype is simply the ID# of the fighter it launches, while the ammunition outfit points to the ID of the weapon just like normal ammo.
Good luck -Az
Ah, I get it now. The ammo type is just the weapon you want your weapon to draw ammo from (which is itself most of the time). The number to enter is the weapon ID - 128.
I tested it and it works great. Thank you very much.
K I got the weapon to work. I think it was a blast radius or submunition problem. Anyway I haven't tried out the ship yet (took it out of the dude thing) I'll stick it in soon and try it. BTW, how do you mail a plug to someone. (using EVNEW if anyone wants to know.)
You attach it to an email like any other file. Unlike .rsrc's and .bin's, .rez files should go through email no problems. If you want to be extra careful you can zip it. And if you send it to me for me to poke at, make sure you give clear instructions on how to make the problems show - otherwise, it is very hard for me to fix it -Az
I tried sending it to msyelf a night or two ago but it came out as a text file or something...(went from my PC to a school mac.)
Then zip the file before emailing it. You do know you cant use windows plugins on a mac without a converter, and the converters tend to be flakey at this point? -Az
Haha! I finally got it to convert properly! And my problems went away for some reason...Probably something with the way I made the ship. I fixed it byt copying and pasting another file and editing it. Gotta love copy and paste.
