Can spobs attack each other? If you have hostile spobs equipped with planetary-type weapons, will they fire at each other if they are in range?

Well, it's pretty easy to find out. I think it is REALLY unlikely though. If they could, one would have destroyed the other long ago. -Az

Good question. It is one, however, that could be easily solved via trying it.
If you read the Bible, there is a very interesting but very obscure mention of "planet-type ships." Anyone know anything about these?

It's 0x0400 in the Flags2 field of the weap resource. I haven't bothered to upgrade from 1.0.5, so if it was removed, forget I said anything.

There is a planet-type ship flag for ships too. Planet type ships cannot move too, by the way. And they cannot be hit by normal weapons. -Az
I believe that planet-destroying weapons are only fired by the AI as part of a mission special ship behavior.

Actually, planet-type ships CAN move around- they are exactly like any other kind of ship, except, like it says in the bible, they can only be hit by planet type weapons. This does lead to some interesting behavior, though. Robotech (my previous, now on hold, TC) used planet-type ships and weapons extensively, and it had to have some interesting work-arounds. Most importantly, ships without planet-type weapons pose no threat whatsoever to planet ships. The planet-ship knows this, the attackers kind of do. It becomes strange, as the fighters start buzzing the P-ship but not firing, and the P-ship just goes about it's business.
(About them moving- I haven't tried Robotech since about 1.0.3. This MAY have changed, but I doubt it. They definately motored around just fine last time I checked.)

Masamune, I believe it was you a while ago who described a weapon you made that had two primary components, a planetary weapon and a anti-ship weapon. You said that the AI would rarely fire both at a time, preferring to use the weapon for whatever was appropriate (I think it was something related to Robotech). Could you confirm this for me (did your AI ship fire at planets outside of missions)?
If it wasn't him, does anyone remember hearing about this weapon?

No, planet ships can move -- all that flag does is set it so that only weapons marked as planet-destroying will affect them. (I make use of planet type ships for things like the giant amoeba or the planet-eating Nabisco bugle in SFA -- well, something that's similar to both, anyway... and something I removed from the alpha build I gave everyone access to...)
(edit) Almost forgot... ships with planet-type weapons only use them in mďsns -- this was commented on by mcb a while ago... they were intended for missions where you strafe space stations and the like (think the Death Star trench run from Star Wars). You're almost right Uncle Twitchy- a small edit that I need to add is that they only shoot Planets in missions. Planet-type ships will blast eachother no problem.
And UE, yeah, that was me. The problem stemmed from the AI's ability to not fire all primary weapons if it so chooses, and it's ideas on appropriateness. As long as it had both planet and non-planet ships in range, it would shoot both, but otherwise only one or the other. But, like I just said, they wouldn't shoot at planets, period, unless they were told to do so as part of a mission.
Hmm. A while ago, someone had posted saying that planet-type ships coudlnt move, and everybody seemed to think that made sense, so I assumed that was the case. Sorry bout that. -Az
