No matter how many times I read that, it still looks perverted
(url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")Ewan's Lair(/url) has been taken offline since last night. Now if you go to (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")my site(/url), all you will get is a message saying that Ewan's Lair is moving. This is due to the fact that, EVula.org isnt providing me enough space to host my site as it is, and there is no room for expansion. Therefore I have been forced to find a new space provider.
Jager has said he will give me as much space as I needed for E'sL, so as soon as we get the details sorted out, there will be a nice shiney new look version of E'sL online - except with a different name - el3 "Ewan's Lair" had to go, name wise. It didnt project the right image I wanted for the site. I want to create a comunity wide resource centre with pretty much all you need for plug-in making (much like Saber Studios and Dreamwave were in their days), so the old name seemed too personal for a site of this nature. 'el3' will be the new name, and the new look for Ewan's Lair. A completely new colour scheme and look will be implemented when el3 goes live (hopefully sometime next month)
I had intended on leaving the old version online during the transition, but the orange just bugged me so much I decided it had to go. Also, I no longer have my version of Strata online. I lost my iDisk 2 weeks ago (as I couldnt renew the subscription) and thats where I had my downloadable version of Strata stored. I still have a copy on disk, so it will be back up when te new site goes live
Also, incase any of you need to contact me, my email has changed. This is also due to the loss of my .Mac account. My new email address is (url="http://"mailto:ecc2@st-andrews.ac.uk")mailto:ecc2@st-andrews.ac.uk(/url)ecc2@st-andrews.ac.uk
Why does everyone else suck at google?
Here is where I got my 3.02 copy: (url="http://"http://www.edu.uleth.ca/faculty/members/steed/3Dsplmnt/Strtlnks.html")Linkage(/url)
I got that first link, first search, you must just be bad at google. Everyone is bad at google. I used the key words "Download Strata 3.02" and it found it right away.
This is a lesson to you.

a lesson indeed....I was searching for the wrong thing. oops. thanks for the link
Actually, I've done the "download such-and-such" thing at Google before.
Never, ever, have I come up with a good result...
Clicks "Linkage" Download Free Copy of Strata...clicks 403 FORBIDDEN...
That's why I hate using Google for such things...

Hm... you SHOULD try finding something better than Strata. At least I would, if I were you.

Strata is very good, but if you want to find something better, you usually have to pay for it.

There is certainly nothing wrong with Strata. Ok, the free version is getting a bit long in the tooth but it is still certainly most functional. There arent many free 3D programs available for the mac that can challenge it...
Blender is pretty good, but it has the most god aweful interface.
Wings is a good modeller, but thats all it is. Not really any use for anything but modelling.
Mechanisto... please... it was good when it was first made, and in the right hands can create very nice work, but its just too limited and hard to use.
Therefore I shall be sticking with Strata 3.0.2 free for the time being. I would really like to get Pro, but its too pricey. I can get Lightwave for a lot less than I can Strata Pro That said, Im used to Strata's way of working and love its new renderer... descisions descisions...

Trogdor: No problems...
Jules: New renderer? Are you talking about the radiosity renderer? That's kinda nice for glowing windows and so on, plus it gives a realistic looking render, or at least more so than raytracing. It also has a cartoon style renderer which is slightly cool, but of little apparent use.
Some advice I would give all of you who attend university, no matter what your degree, convince someone in the design faculty to let you use the design computing labs, they have all the best programs in there... If only I could be bothered learning how to use lightwave.

Well, not exactly new renderer... with recent revisions, the basic ray-tracer rendering engine has been heavily revised. It produces a far nicer and smoother look than it does in good old 3.0.2. The radiosity renderer they have implemented is simply beautiful. It is at least on par with lightwave's, and perhaps better in the new 3.9 update.
However, lightwave will most likely be my next 3d software since it is conciderably cheaper with accademic discount (lightwave is about $300, compared to Strata's $500), not to mention more widely used in the graphics industry Still trying to scrape together the cash though
no problem there, just attack some pirates and sel-.....oh wait, guess that wouldnt work
Really? Wow, I never noticed the difference. The radiosity renderer is great though... try putting a glowing window in a model, it does them so well!
But yeah Jules, I too need to get lightwave. Maybe I can make some cash through graphic work... I should get a website up.

Yeah, Im thinking about seeing how Jager feels about puting donationware status on Final Eclipse once finished (due to Martin Turner's topic) and split any money we recieve. Ł200 isnt that much for me to save up however, so I may just get it when Im working next summer...
True, but for me Jules it'll be a lot more work. With the way the AUD is going I'd be up for about $500 to get to $300 US. Still, it'd be good to get a job for once, unfortunately I'm all laid up this summer... Still, there's always next year.
I can't wait that long, I'm going out begging. Although, the donationware idea sounds kinda cool (like begging, but meaning I don't have to put shoes on), I could ask them to "if you like the graphics in this plug, please donate $5 to the 'let's buy Azdara a copy of lightwave' fund."

You know, I never did learn the US equivalent of a Euro...
In any case, I would NEVER be able to afford either of those at my age (hence the heavy emphasis :)). Maybe I should talk to Ed (next-door neighbor)...he does this stuff for a living. I'm just not sure if he does 3D stuff.
Oh, and it wasn't supposed to be perverted. Just a typo. A typo I'm too lazy to fix.

Neither did I... however I did learn the conversion of Ł(GBP) to $(US) Roughly 1.5 of their US Dollars, to every one of our Great Brittish Pounds
There is a really good site for conversion hoowever - (url="http://"http://www.xe.com/ucc/")XE.com(/url). Just enter the amount of the first currency you want to convert, and the currency you want to convert to, and Roberts your mother's brother!

According to XE.com...
1.00 Euro = 1.14527 United States Dollars
And, 200 Euro = 229.074 United States Dollars ($229 and 7˘)
In order to reach $300, you'd need 261.914 Euro. For $500, you'd need 436.524 Euro.
You preobably already knew that, though...
Orcalover... you keep talking about Euros for some reason, but he's talking in Pounds. Entirely different currency.

I prefer to be referred to as orca. Or Brian. I won't hate you forever, though, unless you call me anything with "orc" (i.e. leaving out the a) or anything starting with lover.
Anyhow...why the hell is he talking in pounds? Did England/Britain/Great Britain/any-other-names-you-can-come-up-with not switch to Euros?
