The EVN bible makes no mention of lengths of planet and bar descriptions, but I know that they can easily get cut off. Do any of you out there know the maximum character limit for those two types of descs?
Thanks in advance.

I think it's pretty close to 900 characters.
(Edit: Actually it's somewhere over 900, but I don't think it's by much.)

Thanks.
BTW, do you know if this is more than the EVC/EVO limit? I was looking at some EVO descriptions and I noticed that 500 characters was about the limit they could be at.
I have no idea. most likely 1024. Do you plan on creating new spöbs or just editing the dëscs?

I'm not sure about descs, but the strings in the str# (string list) resources are limited to 255 characters, but you can have up to 65535 strings in one str#, which is more than sufficient.

Well I should clarify how I got that number, just in case anyone thinks it's something it's not. I don't know the actual limit on dëscs, but the actual planet description is at around 900+ characters long before it's off the landing screen. If the interface was changed to allow more room, it could be quite longer, or only a little longer, I don't really know.
The longest bar dësc that I have on hand is at approximately 275 characters.
How long do you want? The easiest solution would be to write it and see. 900 is an awful lot, so remember, more than that is probably so boring and long that it belongs in a PDF file as optional background data. I only sometimes read the Desc's anyway, so don't knock yourself out

The long planet dëscs in Nova are actually very good, and as I now have played a while I read them in places I go frequently. You notice their enchanting effect when you play Polycon.

I have a solution: DON'T GO OVER 900. And if you must, go ahead and edit the interface, as stated...

I too support having nice long planet descs. When playing Polycon the lack of background info from planet descs makes the whole place seem... confusing and bland, honestly. If they are too short, the whole thing gets kinda boring. Though nobody reads the descs once theyve been to the planet a few times, it's impossible to get into a plug without some good descs. I dont bother playing polycon anymore, and the confusion resulting from a shortage of descs that gave one an idea of how the world worked really was a big part of my decision to not keep playing polycon. That and the outfit descs tried to sound scientific without any scientific basis (it bugs the hell outta me when they do that, and EV:N standard does this too, just not as much. If you put in the details of how something works, make sure its plausable, rather than just throwing in big words). -Az

Yeah, I like big planet dëscs too. That's how I know what the limit is near, because my TC gets awfully close in some places.
