Textures

Alright, I already made an exceptable ship design (okay, it isn't like the Nova designs, but I think it's cool for only using 3D tools for only 4 days or so, and beiing only 13 years old, hehe). But I was looking for a metalic like look for me ship.
Any1 knows where I can get this?

Google is your friend. Search for Texture depots, tutorials on how to make your own and so on. Meowx has a texture department I believe... and a tutorial, Onyx also has some things to say. Can't remember the urls though. Someone else will know. For know try google.

But anywayz, thanks for the tip Azdara. I looked on Google, and I couldn't believe people actually ask money for that. Well, I'm lucky I'm now with MeowX 😄
And Curufinwe_Fëanor, how do you make a texture in the program? I know it's possible in Photoshop, but in Blender itself, that would be cool.

Do I smell something dodgy going on? 🙂

Photoshop is really your best bet... Graphic converter can do rudimentry textures as can any drawing program, but to get really good effects, you need photoshop.

Well, for a great base metalllic texture, I find that changing the texture settings to somewher around...

60-100% specularity
10-35% glossiness
10-45% reflectivity

you manage to come out with something that mimics a metal base surface - something to have beneath any color or textures you add

Thanks Zombat, but again, I'm suffering from a problem. I tried to texture a ship, and it failed big time.
So I decided to try it out on a cube with a brick texture (not self-made, I downloaded it). But the result is horrible, well, see for yourself on (url="http://"http://www.freewebs.com/the_vortrex")www.freewebs.com/the_vortrex(/url)

The problem is that your textures are being mapped straight down so the edge pixal is being repeated all the way dow n the side because it mapps solely from the top. If you make the edges of the texture one color, it won't end up with the stretching. But I can't really tell you how to map all the sides. I don't know Blender.

Can you texture by poly or only by object? If you can only map by object, can you layer textures? What are the different modes you can map textures in?

I tried mapping on face at a time, but that didn't work. But I'll try it with layers.

because I'm realllllly lazy, and can't be bothered to download a brick texture and set up a cube in blender (which I experiment with), could you send me the file and I'll take a look?
