A. Is it possible to obtain both?
B. If not, which one is better/more useful/needed for a new quest?

Well... I hope Stark doesn't mind, but: It is possible to obtain both. I won't say how, because Stark'll kill me...
Now, as to which is better: save your game before choosing. Then try both of them out. Then you can make a decision.

Err...I can't. I'm only level 14. And can I always get the one I don't choose (or can I only get both if I pick a specific one?)

You can always get both, however, if you get the "wrong" one it will be a bit tedious getting the other one...

I remember in the beta test that I was able to defeat the villains in the well at level 14 (but not before.) It took the best armor available, a training session at the Pink Termite Resort to build up my stamina, and lots of health potions before I was able to emerge bloody but victorious. One trick, which I did not use, is to go down the ladder, kill one or two, and retreat back up the ladder to heal before trying again.

To answer the second half of your question, you need one to get the other and it only works one way. If you get the other first, one becomes very difficult (but not impossible) to get. Use a little deductive reasoning here. That's about as close as I can get without giving it all away. Enjoy your game. ~RD

The (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/rduck/")Kingdom of Garendall(/url) sectional map is easily printed from gif format pages.
Find those areas you missed the first time around. You'll want to explore those hidden areas now made accessible with Spells Expander.

Yeah, I figured it out. What are the coordinates of the other space? I tried using blink but POG crashed whenever I missed...

The cellar is a 50x50 area I believe(it may be 100x100 though...). Look at the map and make some educated guesses.

A good mage likes to experiment. 🙂

hehe, a good mage also allows his master to keep one of his spells when only one is offered 🙂 (of course, I have both)

Since when? 😉

I always figured taking 2 when 1 was offered is called stealing...

Anyway, you should of made those rooms on a seperate map or something...

No he shouldn't have. He WANTED it to be possible to get both. 😄

So? Fayleese isn't going to use it, and being the hero who saves all of Garendall, I think people who can help me at no harm to themselves should! Fayleese is simply a greedy collection of pixels who won't even cough up whatever is in his chest...

As has been noted, it was intended that the player should be able to aquire both spells if he was crafty enough.

I consider this a quality of a good mage. Future plug-ins of mine, when they materialize, will have similar "puzzles" in them.

This is good to hear. I frequently finish sections of many games by using craftiness. Age of Empires II is one such game. I frequently use diversions to get my seige weapons past enemy lines, get enemies to become allies, then make them enemies again after having them tribute me, and so on. Pillars of Garendall is also a game where craftiness helps. Crafty puzzles remind me of the Myst series. Those games had many puzzles where you must think outside of th box.

Okay, I've droned on long enough.

For a conjurer, I prefer to think that they'd rather turn the box into something else more desireable. 🙂
