How would one simulate a peace treaty?

At one point in a plug i am working on, i need to have two factions that have been attacking eachother stop doing so. How might one accomplish such an effect? I would rather not have to create a whole new set of systems with links to different dudes of different govts that dont hate eachother (that would require 3 dozen new systs, and a dozen or so dudes to accomplish)
Anyone got any ideas?

You could just use separate düdes, and flick a bit to change them. You'd only really need one government to have their düdes swapped.

Another way to do it would be to have a separate plug-in with government data. After a certain mission is complete, have the user swap between their two gövt data files. All that needs to change is the enemy data, or anything else you want. Just throw in a crön to allow the player to keep playing after the switch, and not before.

Please, for the love of Uplink, don't go off topic!!!

I am not sure quite what you meant by the first part.... Think you could explain a little more? Dudes cant be controlled with misbits can they?

I really want something where the user doesnt have to go swapping files around and such.
Thanks

I have two instances of Treaties signed with the Federation in SFA -- once with the Gorn, and once with the Klingons. In both cases, I have two separate gövts -- the hostile version and the non-hostile version -- and duplicate ships of each gövt. An NCB generated by the Treaty Signing activates the non-hostile ships and deactivates the hostiles. Then I make düdes for each version, referencing the respective ships and assigned to the appropriate gövt and voila! -- instant treaty.

(In the Klingon's case, I actually have three diff. gövt -- the non-hostile, which is only ever encountered outside of Klingon space, and two hostiles, one which is never deactivated to represent renegades and those within their own territory, and then the hostiles that can be encountered outside of Klingon space that are activated by the NCB.)

It is better to feed the goat than it is today.

Aaah... that makes sense. (Course, that means i need to cut back on the number of dudes in each system - that 8 dude limit is really painful even before having multiple copies of each dude - between two dudes for each govt, another two for the treaty version, one trader and one pirates). And only one govt needs to change.... hmmm

Swapping systems is definitely the way to go on this one.

It really isn't that arduous creating the additional links, and if you're creating a peace treaty, it will make much more sense if you change some other things beyond just the dudes - for example, the controlling government could change from 'disputed' to 'neutral', you can vary the planet description to highlight the fact that peace has broken out, and you no longer have a problem with limitations on dudes.

Most interestingly, you can change the navigation beacon string which appears when you enter the system to say something like "Welcome to Treatos. A neutral system limited by treaty. Official treaty sponsor McDonalds."
