How do you...

I was just wondering how so many people can get the shan to work properly and when I was trying to design a ship shan (or sprite) all I could see was 0's and 1's.
It might be the fact that the ambrosia geniuses can do the shan and I am forced to use a sprite file like in EV classic.
P.S. How can I use paint in Nova (for my ships)?
P.P.S I am using adobe PhotoShop 5.5 and ResEdit

hehheh. before a shan can be created, a sprite must be made. one of the ship, and one of the ship, but all completly white, like a paper cut out, but nothing on it. The paper like vut out is called a mask. take apart the Nova engine, and its bacily a more complicated version of ev, but with some very cool new features.

i suggest looking the utilities section of the Nova add-ons page. there will be a file called..... all heck, i'll just get a link to the thing.

it can be a bit comfusing at first.
but practise makes perfect, or at least a slight variation of good.

Also, are you using a program like nova tools? Basic resedit cant make sense of the RLE format that sprites are stored in. Nova tools is really essential for plug dev. It is linked to from ev-nova.net (too lazy to go fetch the link).
